Just want to share a misshap i had on Friday. I've been using my 2Kxl with an MCD for a few months now. I installed the MCD myself, (thankfully via advice i picked up here on this forum) and its been working great until Friday night AT A SHOW!!! Could not load the sounds & programs etc. because the MPC could not see/read the ATAPI/MCD drive. What a panic! 
I had to go on and do my set. No time to open the machine. So we just went on and free-styled which was fine, but nothing near the high of our planned set. When i got home and opened the machine, i found the problem to be the ribbon cable had come loose 
I thought i'd firmly inserted that cable when doing the install but obviously not firm enough. So just thought i'd share that story with anyone with a similar set-up. Watch that ribbon cable dont wiggle loose. Press it down gently till you feel and hear a little click. Simple little detail cost me a night of dread.
