please help!!! 2000xl freezing

I bought a new scsi hard drive for my 2000xl, i have had one for a year with no problems, but needed a new one.
I made one or two beats, saved them fine and left it for a coupleof hours.
When i went bak to it to make a new one, it froze after about 15mins.
I didnt think anythin of it, switched of the mpc and turned it back on again.
Now it is freezing every 10-20 secs and i cant do anythin about it.
Could it have anythin to do with the new hard drive? I switched it on without the hd and it still happens.
Is my mpc dead???
Another thing about it thats wierd is, if i go on to the sample page before it freezes, the sound still comes through and the level meter still moves.
Its as though all the buttons have froze.

first thing i would check is crack it open and make sure those scsi cables are securely connected

its an external scsi drive i got.
Do you thinki should open it up see if anythin is loose?

does it do the same thing without the ext drive connected? If so you gotta have a look inside. If is fine without then you've narrowed down your problem, just check all the scsi stuff is solid

it happens even when its not connected, I might just open it up and se everything is attached right.
