this is a separate issue though, i still wanted that one running in the other forum but whatever i dont want to argue about it.

decided to sell anyway, cant find anyone who uses one sucessfully with logic so dont think it can be done (dont delete the thread though you never know someone might come up with something before it sells).

I won't delete it, it's fine as it is.

I also ran across another thread that someone was saying it doesn't work in jjos1 either.

You might just go ahead with your original plans and sell it if you see fit to do so.

i have my mpc rocksolid locked to LOGIC PRO 8

BUT i'm using beat clock
ie: MIDI clock

set the logic 'Settings' /synchronization, to 'transmit clock destination' to the port that the mpc's on

set the mpc /sync pages, to reveive midi clock as slave [on the midi in thats appropriate].

'play ' in logic will start the mpc at the right tempo and all.

like lampdog suggested, maybe give your logic song a one or 1/2 bar count in, i personally dont 'cos midi beat clock catches up real quick (usually after first tick - any delay is resolved).

one issue though is when 'cycle' is on in logic. the beat clock may drift due to the lack of song position info, clock works 100% solid for me as long as i'm not looping in cycle

thanks for taking time to respond but ive tried all that and it still dont work, i am using logic 7 cant afford to upgrade to 8 just now.

use midi beat clock it works nearly perfect

don't waste ur time messing with the mtc for hours and days like i did

it doesn't work

mtc dont exist on akai2.12 or jjos3.08 and syncing to midi clock (i guess thats what you mean when you say 'midi beat clock'?) dont seem to work in logic 7. if anyone got it working give us a shout otherwise dont post cos i tried everything already.

1)use the search button: here's everything you need from when i and others inquired about similiar issues bro

jackymurda, you're on logic 8, loadsa cats got it sync'd with logic 8, im on logic 7.

how come cats keep banging on about MTC, there is no MTC on my mpc1000 even with jjos3.08? is it in jjos v1 or 2?

decided on a little workaround anyway, gonna record a 1 bar pre-roll and just hit record in logic **** trying to sync.

As I understand it- Frame rate is to do with SMPTE and MTC and must be matched up on both bits of equipment you want to sync [just another thing that nobody could agree on at the time so it's a pain in the ass now] - midi clock just sends tempo information.

Personally, I would use the MPC as the master, record out the midi, then route the midi channel back out to the MPC and play back on logic, not syncing up, just using logic as an external controller for it. And THEN record the audio.

This means you have the intuitive use of the MPC in the first place and you can tweak things in logic if needs be, before you record the audio. It also gives you more flexibility with regards to tempo and you can add in little fills and flams and rolls etc...

This does all depend on you having low latency all round, but even if you don't, you can shift things and chop them in logic.

stop mentioning MTC cos its not even on the MPC1000, stop mentioning midi clock cos i obviously tried it before posting and it didn’t work, and stop mentioning midi beat clock cos that doesn’t even exist.

If any of you have logic 7 sync'd with the mpc1000 i would be grateful if you show me how, otherwise what's the point guessing ideas that are either impossible cos the shit dont exist or stuff i will have obviously already tried before posting.

im just gonna record pre roll before every stem, a pain and a waste of disc space but at least i get to keep the MPC.

I won't mention the M word.

I didn't realise you had the method I suggested. my apologies.

I'll have a go later with an old version of logic and let you know.

JJ OS (the paid ones, not the free one) has MTC (and MIDI Clock, which, by the way, is the same as MIDI Beat Clock, as well as MMC - a separate protocol called MIDI Machine Control).

MTC (MIDI Timecode) is an adaptation of SMPTE Timestriping to the world of MIDI. It is designed to synchronize MIDI capable audio/video devices. In other words MTC is designed with audio synchronization in mind.

MIDI Clock (or MIDI Beat Clock) on the other hand, is designed to synchronize MIDI sequencers and other (primarily) MIDI devices. Its optimized for MIDI sync.

MMC doesn't actually sync two machines together. All it does is allow devices to transmit and receive start, record, stop, locate, ffwd, rewind, etc. It was designed, I believe, for machines like the Alesis ADAT, where it wasn't really important to have total sync, as long as the ADAT started and stopped when it was supposed to. I never found a use for it in the DAW world.

Download the JJ OS demo and see if MTC does it for you.

I have Logic 8 so I can't help you directly.
