2000xl Pad problem HELP!!!(newbie)

3 screws under the front piece, and the 2 front screws on the sides and the front will pull straight off. then there are 3 screws under where the front was, 5 on the back, and the last 2 on the sides. pull the nv slider knob straight up. then lift the top panel up and off.
once the top is off. pull off the pads and theres your sensor sheet. to the left you will see a flat clear plastic ribbon that goes into a black conector on the board. first thing is to just look at the ribbon to check for breaks. there are what lookes like grey lines. each line is a contact trace that is conected to a pad. a typical thing that happens with the replacement sensors is this cracks because its too long and you have to manipulate it to get it installed and under the case. the other thing is the black conector gets a little scetchy. i had to put a piece of cardboard under the ribbon/on top of the board to get my pads to work in one of the xl's i had. it worked great but the ribbon had to be iserted into the black piece perfectly.

Do i need to de-magnitize myself kinda like how i would need to do if i were installing the ram?
Ive heard that you could fry the machine if you try to dissable it and touch it because of the electrical currents from your body.
Ive seen those special gloves that PC shops sell to protect against that, do i need those?

If anyone is thinking about getting new pad sensors for their MPC2000XL,they dont make them anymore.I talked to the ppl at vstservice.com and they said theyre trying to get AKAI to make them again.

I seen that MPCSTUFF has a statement that says they will buy MPC's and/or Parts. I have the same issue in needing new pad sensors. I first thought it could just be the pads themselves not triggering the sensors. Then after buying a new pad set, I finally know that its the sensors all together. I also heard from an associate that Akai quit producing the pad sensors for 2000, 2000xl, 3000, and 4000, with hopes that once your pads go, then you HAVE to buy one of their newer models, ala 1000, 2500, and 5000. Why do you think they have different pad sensors available for those models.

All I need is a pad sensor board and my old tank (blown out 2000 xl pro studio plus) is back in business. When you link it up with the Akai 1000, using efx from the 2000 and running as a play through input device using the 1000's Main EQs and Mastering, plus internal efx... SHIT SOUNDS AMAZING. Take any loops and have them sound like they've already seen a stint in post production mastering straight to CD-R.

So yeah. If I cant purchase a new pad sensor anymore. then Im going to piece this **** out like an old ford.

The four top pads do not give me more 'signs of life
Can anyone tell me how to fix it?

Try this...

From the main screen, hit SHIFT + 5 (TRIM) then SHIFT + F1
Click on MEMCHK,
Click on PADCHK,
Here you can tap on all pads in all banks to see the velocity and even check your note variation slider.
See if you are getting any response from your pad 4.

Then replace the pads.
