2000 clasic problem question

ok my friend has a 2000 classic mpc that doesnt boot up , when he turns it on ,it says insert disc ,once he does that it says disc read error, how can we get this thing to boot up ?

can we by pass the floppy and go straight from the scsi if we were to get a scsi?

any help is appreciated

....sure you can boot from scsi...but the 2000 is the last one that doesen´t boot from internal ram....so you need the operation system on the scsi device....
but if you do so, keep in mind the first aps on the zip or disk is loading automatically, too.....

whenever i had that problem, i first tried a new floppy disk which is usually the problem....good way to prevent floppy errors or floopy drive problems....take the floppy out, once the system is loaded...´cause otherwise that damned thing is runnig all the time.....

so putting in a new os on it may be the cure?

how bout put in a floppy drive...could it be the drive is no good?

whats the site where i can get the OS from ,i havent used that site in a while.

Not on my machine, it only reads the disk(drive lights up, makes sounds) when its booting, after that the disk is just sitting there. Unless you were talking about zip disks, then yes they keep spinning for a while after loading unless you eject them.

Google akai to find the OS 1.72 file you need.

can you put a zip in place of the floppydisc?
i tried the OS thing but ..no work. it keeps reading disc read error!!
i tried booting it with the disc in and the disc out .
the drive makes noise like its working, the lite lites up but then it reads disc read error!!

we got in to it and it seemed the plug was not fully on ,
so we snaped it on and tried it out ,still same.nothing

question : if you take the memory out of it for a while, will that reset any
non- fuctioning software functions. . :?:

Sounds more like the drives dead. It doesn't have any boot rom like the xl,3k or ect. So if the disk/scsi drive with the disk or files is in/connected on start up it won't load and when you turn the power off all the settings are wiped cause it doesn't save any settings what so ever. To boot from scsi using a zip format the zip with the 2k scsi drive, get a usb zip drive, find the 1.72 os(forat site has it), unzip the os, drop the files on the mpc formatted zip, put zip disk back in the 2k's scsi zip drive, turn the 2k on. Also you can put a zip in the floppy spot with some soldering intense mods, so external is best.

Can you tell us exacly how you tried this? I mean how did you create the BootDisk?

peterpiper i had to get the file put on by a friend .i downloaded the files and burnt them to disc and then my friend transfered them to the floppy.

fasttrackpimp what if i just took the floppy out and put the zip in place. can't i just take the wire off the floppy and then plug in the zip drive.

another question:
can i take the drive out of my XL and use it on the2000 to boot it up then save it to the zip drive, or does it have to be booted with only the floppy?


i'm trying to get this done with the least as possible, i have some parts to fit the 2000,

The 2k doesn't have an internal scsi port. So the only way you'd be able to put an internal scsi zip drive in is to mod the rear 2k scsi port. It can be booted with a zip if you do the steps I listed in my previous post.
