As far as I know the rear external port is connected(soldered) directly to a circuit board not by a cable. I refer to this thread:

If anyone has done this CF reader mod on a MPC2000 classic without soldering the external SCSI port, please explain how you did it.

Without soldering there is no internal scsi device that will work in a 2k classic.

A relative safe method I thought about (and maybe will try soon) is a second D-Sub on the back of the MPC and solder that D-Sub to a SCSI ribbon cable to connect the SCSI Drive. Then you could connect the two D-Subs on the back.
The benefit is that you dont have to mess with the pins on the board. The MPC just need a little case modification.

That's what I thought, SCSI for samplers needs to fix their compatibility charts.
