zone edit alternative?

I want to upgrade to the 1000, except it’s missing one essential feature: no zone trimming. I use this feature all the time on the 2000xl, and couldn’t frankly do without it. Now I know this can be done with software, although not exactly in the same way (I like to divide my loops by length and not by amplitude like recycle does). Does anyone know of any loop slicing software that allows you to divide loops by length regions (like the 2000xl does)?

Also, I’m curious about file management on the 1000. Assuming I have different slices of a loop inside a folder, can you easily assign them to the pads, or is it a one by one manual job? What about final overall project saves, can it all be saved in one file like on the 4000?

You can't zone in the mpc1000?!

Yes, your right that there is no function called "Zones" in MPC1000. There is however a feature called, "Extract" that works in a very similiar way. With extract you take your original wave file and pull out what you want by selecting your desired beginning and end points. As far as the MPC2000xl's ability to divide a wave into an exacting 16 slices...well, the MPC1000 doesn't have this feature.

There are some work arounds to this though. One is to calculate the size of the original sample; what i mean is to divide the original wave by 16 and bam, you can extract you 16 parts that way. Of course this would take about 2-3 minutes but it works fine. Phatmatik Pro and other software can also divide you samples systematically if were wanting to get into software editing. In fact if you go the software route there is very little that you'll find you can't do to waves (and aiffs). Intakt by Native Instruments is also a great little slice and dice editor.

Slices are easily assignable. Again, if you go software you can grab an MPC1000 pgm. maker to handle assignments and then transfer via USB and bam, load up the pgm. and there all there. With extract, it ask what pad you desire to assign to.

One more thing, if your on a MAC, check out MPC Pad 187 (there's a thread in this forum on it). It gives you all the 1000 sample control you need. Stephen the programs creator has also noted that future updates will incorporate the wave dividing feature (16 equal parts) you looking for.

Just pull up the wave file and then pull up the grid function in recycle. That will devide the wave file into equal sections based on bars. Just divide the wav file using the grid lines and you should be on your way. That's the way I do it anyway.

What about the final project save file? does it exist? how fast is it to load up a project? also..do you store all your projects on the media card or on the computer?


also, dmax...i found the grid mode in recycle ...but i was wondering how do you export your sliced loops to the mpc? i saw there is a akai program format available( .akp ) , does this map the slices straight to the pads??

or just do it the old fashion way and chop it by eye/ear. I f you need to timestrech the pieces do that with software. It takes a while sometimes but its not a necessity to do it via recycle.

Thing is, I already have a 2000xl...so no way am i going to upgrade to the 1000 if it is to do things the "old fashion way" !!

Recycle can export to akp file. That can be imported into the mpc program creator program. It will assign the samples to the pads.

Just export the sliced up file in recycle to akp file. open the akp file in the 1000 program creator and you should be all set.

Let me know if this makes sense. I am not at my computer with recycle or mpc program creator so I can give you the exact steps.
