Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By mr18 Sat Nov 22, 2008 9:47 am
for those of us in the UK, I've just bought one of these from these guys

http://www.easydatastorage.co.uk/UKSite/

not online shopping, but a quick email sorted it- they don't keep stock, took em about 2 weeks to order in and post to me - £30 all in.

Not fitted yet, got to sort the newest OS onto zip first!

AFAIK, the one described at the beginning of this thread requires OS 1.20.

-Before you open your MPC Update your firmware to 1.2 by simply unzipping the file, and copying it on a formatted floppy. (Firmware located here: http://www.akaipro.com/contentmgr/showdetails.php/id/1922

i'm new to the mpc-wold, so your help would be very much appreciated:
tried to upgrade my mpc by using an scsi zip drive (selected the unzipped file), but now "insert 2000 xl disk!" pops up every time i start it up. anyone got an idea how to fix this problem?

thx

UPDATE >>>>>

I have gotten the sandisk cf card and it has worked flawlessly!!! Thanks to all that helped and added input on this subject. I m totally satisfied and happy that it was inexpensive(compared to the hundred plus bucks for the drive on other sites). Thanks again kudos to the author of this thread!!!!

why and how would you have gotten the file from a zip disk? why don't you just do it how it says.

So am I right in thinking I can discard the power cable that came with this drive and just plug it straight in to the original cable that my floppy drive was plugged in to?

if you use the drive in this thread, yes that is recommended.

Re Read the How-To

-If you use a different CF-ide-device you may have to modify the power cable, it's very easy, Snip the wires, then find a 4pin Molex Plug on a regular PC power supply and clip it off with about 4" of wire lenght, Slip 2 peices of heat shrink tubing over the RED/BLACk cut wires, Totally remove the YELLOW/BLACK wires. (We only need the 5v) Connect the RED to RED and BLACk to BLACK on the MPC Wire harness, Solder them, and then use a heatgun/lighter to activate the heatshrink to cover the Soldered connections.

Anyone else had the problem of cards working at first and then not being recognized? I had it working fine with a 1gb Sandisk Ultra 2 card then it just stopped reading it, displaying no floppy device. I had the same problem with a 1gb Lexar Professional card. Any ideas??

Please supply more details about the Cards in question, Without the Model#s we won't be able to accurately re-create your issue.

Currently I have been using a SanDisk SDCFH-1024-901 1GB Ultra II CompactFlash Card for about 5 months now with no issues and can be had on eBay for about $8 USD.

That's the one I used, it was the second card I bought as the first "Integral" one I tried didn't work. The Sandisk one worked straight away to my delight, so I decided to put the MPC back together again only for it not to work   as you can imagine! So I took it apart again to test for a loose connection but haven't been able to get it working since. Next I tried a Lexar 1GB 133X Professional card which worked straight away, so I put the MPC back together again and the same thing happened again!

Thanks for the quick reply by the way and major props to you for starting this thread in the first place.
