Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Ok I know some people will say :wtf, use your MPC to make music and dont ask that strange questions.

But I'm interestet in the deep inside of any machine cause nearly every old machine got a strange behaviour that someone would call "soul" (others would say "bug" :D).

The topic today: the lost samples.
Fact: the MPC2000s A/D coverter is a 44,1kHz / 16bit converter right??

Ok did you ever sample exactly 1 second??
Do it and then switch to the trim screen. Ups what happen to the endpoint?? In theory it should be at 44100 but the sample is only 436xx or 437xx long.

So what happened to the 3xx other samples??

Ok, I guess noone but the engineers at Akai know the secret.
But I would like to know if this behaviour is still a part of the MPC Series. So to all you MPC 1k or MPC2500 or MPC5000 User would you please tell me if it is.

2kxl manual pg 90-91. Is your pre-record threshold proper?

how the hell can you judge 1 second exactly anyway. were not terminators here. we are people. and if some milliseconds being missing is really bothering you. dont you think you should be diving a little deaper into therapy or something. i think they call that "ocd".
when i chop a 1 sec sample on the pc and then load it. its 1 sec in the trim screen. maybe your finger is too fast on the stop button.

Same here. I get the same number of samples....

To actually manually sample into the mpc and try to stop it at exactly 1 second, is humanly impossible I think.

Peter, exactly how are you going about this and measuring it precisely.

If manually sampling, I think impossible....

@lunatic: First of all: I dont have any problem with the "lost samples". Like I said, I'm technicaly interested in such things (just like the false wave display of the 2000 and 2000xl). These things give the machine a special character.

Haha. Do you really think I sit here and press the stop button after exactly 1 second??? c'mon..
I belived the 1.0 second setting in the sampling menu.

@Lampdog: prerecord was 0. And threshold is off. I just tried it with different settings = same results. And if it would have something to do with the prerec the sample should be longer than 44100.

Oh I did another test and recorded the 437xx samples long sample in Audition. (Yes I know. It's not as exact as save and load the sample but belive me I know how to handle the rec gain). Result : sample = 0.98 seconds long and at the end there is a small envelope (just like all samplers do it I guess would also be interesting to know why is that. And no, I'm not in program mode so it couldn't be the A/D envelope).

Oh, and if you want to know, I used a 440Hz Sine Wave for the tests.

sample 2 seconds and trim @ 44100, maybe the mpc has auto truncate to stop clicks? i know the chop mode does

how can you say this, speak for yourself, I have happily been a terminator all my life and hopefully will be one for a long time to come, long live the electricity grid!
