I don't think it is impossible to do, it's just a question of now much I need to learn to do it. But this is far from an area I am experienced in.

I have stayed with OS1 because sequences get mixed up in OS2, where pad assignments are jumbled up in the tracks and other things. So if I switch to a new OS, I will do a full switch and never look back. I'd hate to be in a situation during a live set where I have to restart my MPC because I feel like loading up a specific project which is only compatible with a different OS...

Besides, I recently switched from MPC2000 and had to do a lot of work to port things over. Now I have to do it all over again...

I'm not asking for much, just that there is a general compatibility between OS's on sample assignment and tuning, and that tracks trigger the right pads. Redoing the rest is not such a problem.

Actually, I imagine it would be possible to make a JJ OS translator on PC/Mac without much problem, seeing as somebody made Bluebox and similar programs. But again, I'm not an expert.

but has he deleted the q-real functionality. it used to be accessible through grid edit, i think it was shift f2. if it's gone. i am praying that he didn't get rid of this.

Am I missing something? because to edit your old beats/ songs, why not just reload jjos2. Then when creating something new, reformat back into jjos2XL? Does this harm the MPC to reformat as we have always done with updates? By the way who's up for making a fresh JJ 2XL splash screen!!!!

hmmm.... that's actually a really good idea. i don't have the coding skills but i'm sure somebody could do it.

JJ even might be able to do it but i'm not sure if he'd be into that.

Maybe he'll do it for 5 more dollors. zmy man is about that cake, which is fine. After all... we are not comunists.

it's been stated on his page for awhile: "There is not Q-REAL of a grid."

what this means is that QREAL data no longer shows up in grid edit. kind of a bummer.

BUT, the good news is that you can still record it into the sequence, just not edit it (well, you can still get at it via STEP EDIT, but that is waaaay tedious).

except some problems with loading OS2 files.

one is that if you have tuned your hits (for example by 16levels mode) in OS2 and load it to OS2XL it will ignore the values. though you can manually adjust them back to original values in step edit but it's not very quickly done step by step.

audio track locate points are also forgot when loading OS2 to OS2XL.

track velocity (in main window) for OS2 files is 0% (which i wish would mean OFF - or by default would be set to 100%). if value is changed it is impossible to change back to 0%, value can be set only between 1-200%... not sure if this really matters unless 0% equals to OFF.

100% is 'off' because volume and/or velocity are played back as they are. so i agree, jj should set it to 100% by default.

Lovin it. I really like being able to customize the buttons. Arpeggio kicks ass. The Pad to Track feature works out perfectly! This is how I always wanted to be able to work on this thing. You can record everything on one track, then spread it out and use track mute... Also change tracks while recording? Amazing. I love JJ, and I love getting these updates. A very unique time. In the past, you may get a few OS upgrades over a year or two, that would fix a few bugs. Most of which you didn't know about or had already worked around. Having major features added may have happened once or even twice, but usually only to top of the line gear. Thank you JJ! Oh, and thanks Nym for all the testing and quick responses... If you can't tell, I'm in a great mood. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
