MPC 1000 Black Vs. Blue model

Hey guys, I am new here and have a very basic question.

I have been researching getting an MPC 1000 and had seen Amazon.com selling the Blue model for $999 and the black model for $850, both new. Am I correct in assuming that the blue model is the older version? I believe that is what I have read in numerous postings on this site. Why would the newer version (black) be cheaper than the older (blue) which had issues with the pads. Am I missing something here????

Also, at this point, since the MPC 1000 has been out quite a while..... is there still a good chance that one could buy a new MPC 1000 and still get the old pads? I believe the pad issue surfaced several years back. I was wondering if anyone had purchased an MPC 1000 recently and received a unit with the old pads.

New ones with a certain serial # are new pads, i forget what it is, you can chek the top threads for some people talikng about it. I would be patient and try and find one new with the upgraded pads.

Thanks J Def, I just wasn't sure if it was still possible to buy an MPC with the older pads. Considering that many of the posts/complaints I have read are several years old. I was hoping that all the MPC 1000's on shelfs now would be the newer pads, but I guess not. The serial number is definitely helpful though in determining the pad version of the 1000. u cant always assume that the pads are going to be bad kus thats not always the case....do some research and ask questions and dont settle for the first one u find.....look on ebay and ur most def find one less than 850$ with more ish upgraded on it and working pads...i got myne for 600$ off ebay and its flawless!!

I'm in the same boat. I'm gonna be getting my first MPC soon, and it's a blue 1000. My friend just upgraded, so he's selling it to me for $300. At that price, I don't really care about the pads, though. Even if I have to upgrade them, it'll still be worth it.

I've done some searching around, and it seems to be 50/50. some people claim the blue ones are fine, some say they're nothing but trouble. I say go for it, and hope for the best.

i had my blue 1k since akai first release it and i never had a problem with my pads.

that's some crazy $hit...my pads were literally nonfunctioning within one year of purchase

Somebody (probably private seller) is likely trying to get more for the Blue than it is worth. I'd pass and go straight for the BK. BK-N is better as it is guaranteed to have the pads, but you may have to ask which model it is first.
