Stick with what I got or what!...

how many inputs you needing? i thought you just wanted to interface your yammy to the pc...which i would have done via a stereo pair into the sound blaster...

if you want a multi input option its gonna be more pricey so the pro tools route is right...but you must ask yourself are you going to be using your pc as a recording desk? will you need to record many different instruments simulatanously but into separate inputs? if so your on the right track.....

if not you dont need the multi input option and can get away with just a sound blaster....

get a cheap M audio one, SB stuff is for gamers mostly.

Basicaly what I do now is sample everything into the mpc whether its a melody from a keyboard, cd or another drum machine and then I record two tracks at a time into the yamaha......The guy at guitar center told me recording with software is going to give me that edge, so he told me since I didn't have 8 outs on the mpc, get the mbox or get the 8 out and get the digi 001, correct me if im wrong but I think he also told me that the yamaha can still be used as a mixer or even as recorder still with the pro tools..... The thing is with me is I want to have the best of both worlds without given up one or the other.......You feel me dub!

am probably out of my depth then....i use the pc to edit stuff and to record into, maybe a bit of processing but dont have it connected to my set up...

Hey dub I figured it out........I made up my mind, Im going with the pro tools. Reason being is that by me also having fruity loops I can mess around with fruity and my 4000 to come up with some hits and then export everything in to pro tools............Oh yeah I almost forgot, I was surfing the net the other day and turns out my yamaha aw4416 has a template I can download to use the faders to control pro tools...........!

wicked...why dont you get rid of the mpc4000 if your getting pro tools? cant see why you would need both....

yeah - jus plain dumb to get rid of MPC if yo uget Pro tools. One is an instrument, one is a recorder. Thats like throwing away my bass guitar cos I got a tape machine, surely.

No doubt. Trust me, the mpc sounds nice recorded into protools when its done correctly and puts fruity loops to shame.

if you can find one, get a digi001. i used to use it but got rid of it to get a few other things. You can still find them on ebay every once in a while.

You coudl use yoru Yamaha and burn the tracks individually as someone said.
Then, save em as wav's onto a cd, and bung em into you pc.
Chuck em into a simple multitrack program, mix it a bit, then burn em to a cd.
Easy.

sorry i didnt read the whole post, just the O.G. question: but i would say get the Protools. Because at some point, your gonna want to go to a studio. If you can do all the preproduction, and tracking at home, then bring it over a la protools.....youll save time and money.

That way you can just get it mixed and mastered, and not spend studio time tracking. ANyways.....oh, and im not sure about who you work with, but all my MCs hear the word "protools" and know what im talking about....if i said "midiman" they have no clue. Just something to think about...charging mcs to track them-if yo have protools you can charge just for pure fact of "protools"

BTW, skip the mbox, go for its big brother, save up a couple extra and get used if you have to, more inputs so you can track all at once (once you get the 8 outs)

Jeez, Protools..... Thats a big step... and a long, long, long, learning curve!!! I would be getting as much advise as posible, don't just take what a sales person says as gospel. Magazines SOS, etc., are a good source of info!!!

Another option would be Cubase, Sonar, Logic, which will give you high quality Virtual Instruments that would shit all over Fruity Loops for quality... Interface using a M-Audio 410 or Motu 828 and you have a major instrument not just a Recording Interface.... You can easiliy mix down into seperate wav's and load into any program if need be...

The advantage of your Yamamha is that its can be used as a Mixer...
