I have them both and both of them have their pro and cons. Get over the fact that it is entry level since that doesnt mean shit... it still has more functions then a 60.

well you have to look at the context of entry level... in the 60 era it was state of the art.. now the 500 with 10 times more functions is entry level... but i have a feeling that name is given according to it's new just released listed price within the MPC family.. wasn't the 60 like 5k when it dropped?

That term entry level is totally talking about cost, and possibly the trimming down of Physical I/O specs. But feature wise the 500 is all MPC.

yeah I was thinking i/o specs also.. the average home user might not require standard 8 outs... i mean hobbiests not home studio producers of course.

Personally though, I dont see myself dropping a few hundred on a mpc500... the 12 pads just seems like a turn off, and I wouldn't take out an mpc on the subway.

Yeah, the 3X4 pads instead of 4X4 is the biggest turn off to me. As far as I/O's go I don't mind the fact that it's only got stereo main outs. 95% of the time that's all I'm using anyway. I think it would've be dope if they added one more midi out though...

I have a 60 and a 500, they sound very different. I was working on the 60 yesterday, I had one 16 second sample in it and I wanted to chop out parts of it and assign to a pad like I do on the 500, but couldn't, that was a pain in the a*s. But the 60 is a great machine, I'm sure I will be rocking it alot in the years to come.
