Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500
By staticseven Mon Jan 19, 2009 5:04 pm
Righteo yes I'm new,
HELLO!
A few months ago a needed a new sampler for a one off gig so bought an MPC500. Rather regretting it now. Used to have an S3000xl and it worked a treat. This thing I HATE.

So its your job to help me fall in love with it. Can I ask a few questions?
* How the HELL do I stop it autoloading all the random hip hop samples at the start?
* Why can't I delete them?
* I've updated to OS 1.31 and everything doesn't seem to work as well. Anyway to go back to 1.0?
* I've been creating simple 16/44 wavs from ableton that are all time correct and dropping them onto the card. Worked like a treat in the past but now only a few actually appear. The rest are sat there and play fine is anything else except the MPC but half the samples the MPC refuses to read.
* Why can't you do a one shot pad that'll loop constantly instead of having to hold a note on pad?

Grrr to akai!

But seriously all help is really welcome.

No, it's not.

* How the HELL do I stop it autoloading all the random hip hop samples at the start?
By going into the manual, and/or search here on the forums, it's been answered in both
forum and manual.

* Why can't I delete them?
Maybe overwrite with a blank folder, it's been answered here also, just gotta be willing to search out the answer.

Check the half that don't work, resave as the proper wav format. 44khz/16bit. Try again.

* Why can't you do a one shot pad that'll loop constantly instead of having to hold a note on pad?
So sequence it that way, then you don't have to hold the pad forever and three days.

Grrr to akai!
Grrr to you for not getting into the manual, maybe.

I had questions 1, 2, and 4 myself when I got my 500. I haven't even cracked the manual open - I figured those things out on my own in about 10 minutes.

Or clear all settings like Akai tells you to after an OS update. A lot has changed since 1.0 . . .

As I can see nothing has changed, people post same questions again and again...

lamp tends to put alot of nails in the coffin really early when it comes to some threads. Especially ones where some sort of life lesson comes.
