os2xl's drum grid edit is treating me very well.
it took a day or two (and a lot of workflow/bug reporting) to get the drum grid edit where i wanted it to be, but i'm very pleased with the results of using os2xl's DRUM GRID + QUANTIZE STRENGTH % to push my drums where they need to be.

the "blockiness" of the DELETE option still throws me sometimes. if you try to delete a single note on 1/8th TC setting, you delete that TC value's "block" of data. this way, you can accidentally delete a note that is right next door to the one you're trying to delete. this is a little ungainly and i hope it will be resolved (so that a single note will be deleted instead of a "block")

however, with TC strength, i'm finding that i have to do a lot less EDITING and a lot more overdubbing.

i come from programming drums in MIDI grid edit, where in ithe ERASE screen you have to erase a range of notes instead of selected pads. i have forgotten how sweet it is to just casually/quickly delete a single pad's notes in a sequence from the ERASE screen just by tapping it and hitting DO IT.

i'm also a big fan, of course, of the ZOOM IN/ZOOM OUT in the grid edit. this is so important, and SO necessarily separated from TC settings.

back in os2 i never used DRUM tracks simply because i disliked the grid editing. i'm glad now because not only do i use DRUM grid edit, but it's even better than midi grid edit for DRUMS. midi grid edit remains the best for inst pgms and controlling non-drum external midi modules, but for drums, grid edit is best.

also, regarding simult, it appears that after stereo crossfade, simult will be examined. no promises, just the grapevine.

I don't like drum grid edit have i have already written in the os2xl thread. You can't do manual editing properly. I guess it's missing another level of zoom for 1/32/3.

Moreover, for my workflow (controlling a s950) i always use drum grid edit and it was far better in os1 for me.

i use what amounts to tc off (ie 1/8 w/ quantize strength at double resolution, ie 1/16th w/ quantize strength) which has a lower resolution even than a rigid 1/32/3 and i'm not quite sure what the problem is - multiple x's on a single block? you do know you can hit SHIFT+arrows to move to and from adjacent notes?

i like the new grid edit, i couldnt find a convenient use for it before - i tended to re-record parts, use seq edit or step edit in os1 and os2.

also is step recording on the main screen new as well? if you just hit the overdub in the main screen you can insert notes at the current seq position- it will auto-increment if its set up that way too.

I never tried it on the other os's but I seem to remember mike feedback requesting step recording from the main screen?

yes, I did request step editing from the main screen.. the 2000xl had it. I haven't tried OS2XL yet though.

Just tried to finish my beat few minutes ago. I've upgraded to 1.07, same problem as before, graphic bug on a 9/4 one bar loop (i.e you only see the first four counts). Shift + arrow is not so good. Press overdub + play, if you maintain shift + a pad, a stuff from mode pattern comes in ; awkward worflow. Not adapted for visual editing like os1. Hope JJ is gonna do something before we must buy os2xl2 :(

well, maybe they're just not described thoroughly enough, but i've had none of those problems. i've yet to try the 9/4th graphic bug though, but that seems like something you could report

haha i always got some weird troubles with my projects. First time i'm pissed off by a workflow problem on a JJ os. Apart from my particular bugs, all i need is the ability of having more squares to fill in at maximum zoom level.

agreed, hopefully we will see a 1/32/3-visible zoom.
