Hi guys,
As a ex-mpc 3k owner, i must tell you that i don't like too much the quantize of the 2500 or 1000.
perhaps they are too perfect !
so my question is to know if there's a way to get the same quantize feel of the 3000 on the 25k ?
And of course i'm not a drummer ;)
if anybody have tips in order to do this it would be great.
peace

LOL. MPC2500 + MPC500 = MPC3000

What's up Genko,

To answer your question have you played around with the quantize settings?
I just upgraded to the OS2XL and there is an option where you can adjust the strength of the swing 0-100.
I've had some pretty good results.

Hope that helps.

thank you guys for your answers.
i've sent groove templates of the MPC60 and SP1200 to JJ.
And i asked him if he could incorporate them in the next os update...
I hope he will listen to my wishes.
If yes, it would be a major update for lots of us.
i think it would really makes the difference between the one who still hesitate to upgrade to JJ.
i've lots of friends who still use MPC 60, MPC2000XL and MPC 3000 and E-MU SP 1200 for their legendary grooves !!!
the ease of use of the 1000 and 2500 with the quantize of the MPC60 + quantize of SP1200 should make JJOS the ultimate tool for production.
that's my point ;)
if we are a lot asking this features i'm sure JJ will add them.
peace

i think that you are barking up the wrong tree with this one. any groove template will simply have the same arithmetic that is used in all the mpcs. adding 75% swing simply moved notes to a pre-determined position.

interestingly though, i flicked through a magazine yesterday (maybe future producers?) and they had an article mentioning swing amongst other things. they had analysed a simple 1/16th drum pattern from a computer application, as well as a mpc2500. the 2500 was slightly 'out' on some of the notes, so i suspect its things like this that create the uniqueness of certain hardware (3000/1200)

i know that it's possible with softwares, digital performer was the first that gave you the ability to use MPC's Groove quantize... Now Motu is going to release a virtual drum machine with quantize of the MPC and even an SP1200 emulation, check MOTU BPM :
http://www.motu.com/products/software/BPM , and there's also here where you can download the groove templates of the MPC60 and SP1200 :

so if it's possible with softwares why not on MPC 1000 and MPC 2500 with our beloved JJ ?

i still don't think it will work. those groove templates you have provided a link to are simply midi files, ie a sequence of notes and their position. it is still down to the sequencers playing of these, and like i said before - different hardware has different fluctuations.

Downloaded MPC3000 and MPC60 groove templates --- threw them in Logic Studio ---- layed a primitive straight boom-bap groove ... applied 65% 16 note swing === very impressive results !

Wonder how accurate theese templates are and how they were created?

Could i create a midifiles of MPC1000+JJOS 2XL midi groove templates
to load them into Logisc and compare with the MPC3000/60?

is there a way to do that?

howto create a groove template from MPC1000 JJ OS XL 1.41 to use in Logic Audio?
By oxide54 Fri Aug 20, 2010 3:42 am
logic can probably do it because its generating audio, and can be sample accurate (i'm not saying it is I don't use it, but its technically possible) and not triggering midi in the traditional sense.

the MPC 2500 is unlikely to generate the swing of the legendary machines, because of the PPQ resolution.

It's 96, the same as the 3k.

so, they swing the same way?

The swing is more controllable in the 1k/2500.

In grid edit you can push and pull your hits around with ease, and with JJOS XL you have quantize strength.
