You incuranged me to get a new backlight for my 900 and 60.

Got white for both.

I was told they if you take the display apart you risk getting lines in your display. Consider your self lucky =)

Good info Bro!
I'm about to go check out a 950 from dude who is selling it for mad cheap... 50 quid ($95!!!!). The screen doesn't work so hopefully it's just a loose/broken connection or needs replacement.
I copied and pasted your tutorial to Word doc for future use. Cheers!

im a retard with installations so i will probably buy a screen and take it to akai when mine goes out. i hope my one isnt going to have a shyt screen its arriving next week.

Are there any other common problems with this unit that need fixing aside from the screen?

dude the akai rep in melbourne won't touch your s950 with a 50 foot pole, better off looking for a local repairer. But seriously, the only hard part is two little solder points you've gotta do and careful with the lcd bracket.
drop me a pm if you wanna ask anything

Good post...

But remember you have to be Very Very careful when attempting a backlight replacement as any mistakes can easily ruin your LCD screen if not preformed with due care.

Thanks guys...yes I think I made it clear that you do that at your own risk. But as I did it anyway, I thought the walkthrough can be a help to anybody thinking about changing his backlight and not being sure what is waiting for him.

You can also make your own pretty easily. This sheet of EL Foil was not quite long enough, so I just spliced two pieces together and laminated them. That line through the O in TONE is actually the splice line. It doesn't bother me, but some people are more finicky with their stuff. I'm just happy I can read my display again!

The inverter in the sampler will run this foil just as well as the original, so you can use the one that comes with it for other projects like car gauges, MPCs etc.

PLEASE HELP ME MY DISPLAY LOOKS LIKE THIS
Image

im so angry, cause, cause i nedidn't test it as i was going on along with a kettle lead

anyway. Ive only jsut found about this thread. I got really pissed when I found out there was something gluey stuff sticking the foil down, i ended up destroying the end bit of the foil with tweezers. it wouldn't budge. So in the end I put the new foil over the top of the failing foil.

screwed it all back together which took about 5 hours cause the case is made really bad (well it is, isn't it)

now i got this ^^^ all the buttons light up, nothing works and ive just wasted 6 hours and im annoyed now.
