Never turning off your 4000

What's the longest amount of time anyone has left their 4000 on for? I'm at 8 days now. I've been doing a lot of beats for a upcoming mixtape I'm producing,and since my 4000 is all I use I hate loading up sounds all the time. Every few days I just load up a gang of sounds and work from that.

Well the longest with out touching it was 4 days. but I have a crazy sleep schedule where I might sleep 2 or 3 hours a night and maybe 1 hour during the day in between that time Im working on new beats and other shiyt. so the longest I might have had it on working on it with on and off production was about two weeks. it currently off right now though...it needs a break

kaotik, make sure you turn the screen off by twisting the little knob on the top right corner on the screen

I dont think its very clever leaving any piece of equipment longer than a day+, unless you're using it all the time it is on!..... power bills?ever heard of gobal warming? heat stress on components inside the unit?is the HD gonna overheat?...is the 4k designed to be left on for 8 days at a time?.....its just lazy not to load and save at the start and end of each session!............................................and the knob on the screen is a contrast knob ,not for switching the screen off....

what ever's clever? I have an auto load set up with all my drum & percussion sounds.

All of my favorite sounds load up on startup.


It is ok to leave it on all the time, just expect to be sending it to a repair shop, before the rest of us have to.

Leaving your MPC or any other gear on for long periods of time is not good. There is increased chance of being ruined from power surges. Also, from too low a voltage. Ever notice the lights dim in the house when the AC kicks in. The same thing happens to your gear, not good.

My father in law has a ton of gear and computers. and he never turns his shit off...EVER!!! and I have never heard him have any problems whith any of his gear. I even asked him about it and hetold me I was better off just leaving it on rather than turning it on and off through out the week. Hes been dealing with Pro Audio for about 20 years now. But Hey What Evers Clever we'll see who ends up at the shop first.

if you think about it, ... it is bad for the electronics inside to switxh the unit on & off and on & off..

it is bad for the powersupply to keep switching on and off.




it is bad for capictors to leave it on.



either way, these machines are built fairly solid. i don't think there is much to worry about in either case.

what do you guys thing about the NO SPIN... Do you guys use this and is it important to do that when I am not loading or saving from the hard drive????????????????????????????

i use no spin, because my hard drive is kind of loud

all the time but thats different because all computers shut down the hard drives when not in use for a period of time

it is not bad for capacitors to always be left on!
Capacitors will not last forever just because they don't have a voltage applied to them.

I don't really agree with Adrian's suggestion that if you leave it switched on, it increases the risk of getting surges - that's just statistical - if you're scared about that, put some proper protection on your ring main.
And just pay attention to the weather forecast about thunderstorms.
