i've had the same problem when saving ish over the previous files on my cf card... saving a project over the previous project that was like the last couple weeks of late night sessions, and booom! after it deletes the previous files it freezes and only 10 or so of the wavs are left! none of the programs or sequences. that shigs depressing. i was super stoked on some of the loops, then hours and hours of hard work... gone. it seems whenever shit is lost, it's the best stuff too. fudge.
ah well, i've got the dual folder system now, where i save to 2 folders, so i'm not risking a crash during saves that could freeeze. yea, and recording to tape or disk when somethings good.
time time to hit the lab.

tha s - recording to audio definitely is a good idea. i'd do what you do if i wasn't so lazy...

Word, that's the "madlib way" record 4 mins and dump it but I can't work that that for too long, especially for beat competitions or live itish

Come on man this is not the place for that term, I know your expressing how you feel, say brothers,or something elses N????.But anyways nym I haven't had this problem yet,so it could be when you downloaded the OS? do a test
by saving your work first, then reloading the OS and repeat the 1 2 bug folder to see if it does it again.

There are some strange things with the way the MPC archives files (i only use CF but asume HD is the same). For instance when i delete files it archives some kind of 'ghost' files on the card.
You can't see them on the MPC but when i hook it up to my computer and use software to view all files i see stuff that shouldn't be there. Only after i've deleted these files with my computer the CF card has the right capacity specs.

Anton, i always save "All programs en samples" and "All seqs and songs" (<< includes FX settings) this way you'll still save all your work inside the MPC. Only thing a Project files saves extra is the Input thru file (.IPT)
So let's say you have a previous saved folder with your song, select the same folder and overwrite with the above mentioned options. Never had a problem with freezing or files not overwriting the old. Loading is real easy, just select the folder and press do it.

yeah, cowbell i think i'm gonna have to rethink the way i save stuff. however, i often save versions that are "bigger" than later ones - ie i purge out unused samples in later versions of the song. this is why i usually delete the folder and then save a new one - because saving directly inside of it would cause me to load even the old samples next time i bring it up...

i dunno, though, your idea sounds good. i have to plan out how i'm gonna change my sinful ways.

Yeah, then create a new folder after purging. But don't save "entire memory", see if that solves it.
Like i said, i never save "entire mem" and don't have these problems.
If your problems still occur it might be some kind of directory issue....

Man, i'm i happy with my 256mb CF

I create a seq and then once I've finished the whole song,I save intire memory creating a Project file. Now when I add or tweak my song after loading up,all I have to do now is save all song and seq , and turn off the mpc. I can come back later and just hit project file (dj-t beat) and it tells what I have saved to load up. I've tryed the 1 2 saving method it's ok,but I just learned to do it easier this way.

every time I save, I delete everything off of my mem card then save entire mem.

I save the samples I made into thier own folder aswell

I delete everything and resave every time to side step and BS I might run in to.

... ANYWAY... The method I use to avoid saving problems... It has worked 100% since I started doing it:

1. Like Hypes said, DO NOT OVERWRITE... Instead, delete the folder first. (Maybe copy the name of it first though to save having to enter it in a sec)

2. DELETE the folder (If this scares you, save a backup in a different directory or use the 1 2 method.)

3. Go back to the main save screen and "refresh" the disk by changing the SAVE TO field off of where you want to save and then back to where you want to save. This step may sound a little weird, but this is the way to avoid the problem that I heard a few people mention about "ghost files" or other improper directory displays. Personally, if I skip this step, then it when i try to recreate the directory, I will get an error and sometimes MPC lockup. It appears that by "refeshing" like this, it straightens out the directory problems.

4. Now you should be able to create a directory and save with no problems.



Try it out guys.... since I started saving like this, I have had no more directory and/or saving problems. 100% success so far... (knock on wood)
