1st time MPC & poster. Oh, cracker with no rhythm skillz but glad to be aboard! Awesome forum.

I realize the spec: PC 133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM 256MB is most important but will DDR or DDR2 work? I checked a couple sites & non-DDR memory is rare.

Back to reading all the threads I missed during the last few years before posting anymore questions!

I purchased a PC 133 144 PIN SODIMM 256 MB CL3 chip, but when I installed it I received an error message.
Something like, "problem is in the memory (8c0000000)"

Anyone have any experiance with this situation, or have any advice, it would be much appreciated.

PS, whats the difference between hi/lo density RAM? Are each compatible?

wtf? you guys should use akai approved ram and no other even its the same cheap stuff!
Yeah. sure. it works.. but ony until you wonder why your sounds are all distorted or your mpc suddenly stops working
+ youre using a third party os

Third party RAM has never had any effect on the sound quality of the mpc1000, 2500, or 500.
So your statement is false. Either the RAM works or it don't. Plain and simple.

There have been defective "AKAI" RAM modules reported in the forums.
So defective RAM is defective RAM, reguardless of the manufacturer.

$150 for Hynix RAM with AKAI's name on it is highway robbery.

"Akai approved" just means "more expensive"

it's the same damn thing, only with their name on it so they can charge 300% markup and get the money directly

I have the Akai RAM, but only because it came with my MPC - aren't they still charging like 150bucks for the "official" 128MB upgrade? Ridiculous
