Things about the 1k that still drive me mad:
(I would die a happy man if these were addressed!)
1- When you record a new part in Seq 01, you must press Stop to be able to switch to Seq 02! I hate that!! (I usually work on 3-5 sequences simultaneously, and record parts on the fly.. I like to be able to switch to the next sequence after I have recorded a part, to see the contrast between the 2 sequences.. maybe I'm the only one who does this? lol)
2- Solo should be able to um Solo multiple pads in one shot -without the need to use Shift- (hell the Electribe can do this!) this is ideal for live!
3- Shift+DataWheel: I still think this could be used in a more efficient way (than current LCD contrast which could be in Other menu), ie like Faster Scrolling through samples (and in all modes); I mean how often do you change your LCD contrast?

Bug? (and one of my annoyances!)
4- In Next Seq mode: when sequencer is stopped we should be able to change sequences from Pads. I was really hoping that JJ would have thought about this.. maybe he did.. cause when you press Pad3 it highlights Sequence03 (and "Sequence03" flashes in the bottom for half a second) but it doesn't switch to it. You have to use the data wheel to switch.. bad bad bad!

mux wrote:How many tracks are you talking about in your sequences? You can switch tracks just fine without stopping the sequencer, then mute/unmute your tracks... I find I get whole songs into a single sequence with no problems, then use the mute page to arrange the song live.

[if you want to discuss this further we can make a new thread, we don't want to hijack this one]
I think it depends on your music style. For dance/techno/house.. where the same drum beat and bass line loop throughout the whole song, and you mute/unmute stabs/effects/vocals... one sequence is more than enough.
But if your song is more complex (ie multiple bass/drums/main parts) then muting/unmuting can become a pain in the neck.

I think of sequences as patterns (or pieces) that can be assembled in Song mode or played live from the Next Seq mode. It is so much easier to switch to a new Sequence where all the new parts are set. I still use mute/unmute in sequences for even more dynamic changes.

but IMO the MPC lacks some major functionalities (described in my last post) that make it somewhat incomplete.. (like the inability to switch to a new Sequence using pads when the sequencer is stopped!! ouch!)
In OS3 Play Start restarts playback. That's a no brainer!! I'm glad that our japanese hero thought about it!

I really hope that the OS3 developper reads this! cause it's something that would make the 1K a monstrous machine 8)

PS why isn't this thread a Sticky!! it's the most important thing happening to the 1K!!

This OS has been alot of fun so far. I havent discovered any new bugs though different than what anybody else has explained. JJ did a real good job. Def gonna purchase the final once he releases it. The direct record function took me a bit to get used to though I must say.

i just booted the new version. i tried to autochop some samples, but my mpc froze 2 times after trying to slice it and create the program.

the result of the autochop function wasnt that great for me. it should actually detect the regions, where the attack is faster than the current setting, not where the volume is greater than the threshold...

A fun new thing to try in beta17, load or record a sequence in slot 1, press play and scroll backwards with the jog (DATA) wheel.

Beta 17 is my 1st encounter with JJ's OS.
It was part of the reason I'm a new owner of MPC1k BK. I love it!

I spent a week with OS2.1 first.
Then I just updated to Beta17 once I knew the slice function would be ok.

Feels much sleeker, i LOVE Mode+11, i love pad for tap tempo also.

As of yet I'm not hip to all the more detailed bugs you guys write about,
but I'll catch up soon enough.

When this Beta is finished, I'm definitely thinking of buying it.

PS:

Guys are there any issues with:

Creating a program in OS3.0 Betas, then NOT being able to open them
when back in OS2.1??

Thanks.

Not quite.

There's info now about this. Version 1.0 will be version 3.0 with a few additional features. There is a plan to release a beta or trial version of Version 1.0 for free of charge, as a try before you buy kind of a thing.
