ANYONE W PRO TOOLS/PC KNOWLEDGE PLEASE HELP ME

I was thinking of getting the new music xpc c2 computer for $1800 to hook up either an mbox or digi 002 to.Today I find a xpc computer on sale for $700 but its a c1 I'm guessing cuz its not a musicxpc version.its a cube looking thing just like the musicxpc thought except the specs are less...

160gb hd instead of 180gb
512 ddr ram 400mhz instead of 1gig 400mhz athlon xp2800+ w front side bus 333mhz instead of pentium 4 3.0 ghz 800mhz

So my question is...
Will this run pro tools fine?this pc is from the same company/half the price...I know the musicxpc is optimized for protools cuz its specs are high and has features GALORE but will this pc be good enough to run protools without slowdown/crashes/syncing problems etc?also should I get it with an mbox or a digi002 rack/console?thanks for your help yall

what the other guy said. if it's not listed as supported on the digidesign site, don't try it.

personally, i wouldn't try to run PT on anything but a mac. it was made for mac and runs the best on there.

Im running pro tools on a pc and I must say it runs as smooth as J-LO'S ass.......

Pro tools can run well on pc depending on wether how you organize
your session files and how many trks or plugs you use in your sessions
but a gig is preferred or an extra drive I have 512megs of ram I need
some more memory but I take good care of my pc so Iam not having
any problems at all.

yeah, just add 512 MB or RAM and you'll be fine with a total of 1 GB

I agree with some of the things said and not so much with some others, while it's true that PT was originaly designed for Mac the theory that it runs better on a Mac is no longer true. The fact of the matter is PT will work equaly well on either platform. The difference between goin' with a Mac and a PC is that with a Mac you won't run into the hardware conflicts that you will with a PC when buying a pre built system. Macs come pretty much ready to work with Digi stuff(except for maybe some firewire issues) while PC systems are always built with all kinds of different hardware that can conflict with finicky Digi stuff.

Your best bet is to go to the Digi user forum and check out the recommended system from the users(they've been doin' this for a while now). I built a PC for around 900 bucks that runs absolutely flawlessly with PT, it even out performs the G5 in every one of the popular Digi forum torture tests. Just take your time and don't rush into a purchase, you'll save yourself a lot of grief. Also, 512 mb's is plenty to run PT, if you plan on using soft synths or similar apps along with PT then you'll definitely want more ram.

If you can afford the 002 I'd definitely go that route, the MBOx is cool but it's not ideal for music production imo. Limited in/out, no midi, awkward monitoring features. The 002 however is extremely versatile.

I try to keep things organized.....Im running the athlon 2500 with 512 ram..but I also have a 120 gig external hard drive........512 is cool but digi recommends you recording to an external hard drive rather than using the one your operating system is on......!

Either that or find someone who can partition hard drives... I got a 120 gig, but it's broken into 3 separate hard drives, so physically there is only one, but i have a C:, D:, and E:, all being hard drives... all my programs and my operating system is saved on C, all my music and oddball shyt is on D and E... not to long ago my shit crashed, and everything on C was hit... but all ma music on D and E was good!

Yeah go with the digi 002.......I have the mbox....its pretty good, but the down side is there is no midi and no 8 outs.......But other than that it allows me to get the job done until I uprgrade to the 002

I've seen the product reviews on www.musicxpc.com and how they were comparing there computers to the MAC G5. And it seemed really powerful my only downfall is the front side bus is slower than the MAC's. Would the Musicxpc be worth the money or do you recommended saving up your money just a lil bit more then get a MAC. The only thing I want is to not have any hardware problems and a stable system
