okay so i made a scsi hard drive backup from my mpc. I opened up a jaz drive and used that to house a 4 gig scsi drive. My mpc formatted it into 4 partitions, each 870 megs.

PROBLEM- I want to back that shit up onto my computer. BUT HOW?! Nothing will recognize the format type? I tried linux... it recognizes that its there when i have it connected by scsi, but it doest load it because it cant read the OS or something. I dont know.

what the hell is going on

MPC formats the harddisk in it's proper format (old DOS format if I'm not mistaken but mpc3000 can surely enlighten us on that subject). I back up my harddisk via the swap-zipdrives-between-mpc-and-pc trick. On the partition issue, can I suggest you to make more smaller partitions instead of 4 big partitions ? That way you will be able to store more files on your harddisk because apparently the number of files (512) per partition is limited independent of the size of your partitions.

"the number of files (512) per partition is limited independent of the size of your partitions"

Not applicable to the XL since you can use folders and not be limited in the number of files per partition.

I use WinHex or disk2file to pull backups of MPC formatted disks and has been describe in the archives of the forum.
