rack samplers ??

i need a GOOD rack sampler, with a better timestretcher..... any ideas?
honestly, not sure what a rack sampler does, i have an idea, but i just know that they got good timestretching. dont realy need it for effects though.

theres a few. the akai s series. The s2000 is cool but basically the same engine as the 2kxl. the s5000 is ill, but expensive to fully max it out.
the emus are hot. the esi 2000 and esi 4000 are sick. i have a esi2000 and its real tight. yamaha got the a3000 and the a4k and a5k. I have the a5k and it has effects, timestertch, all kinds of ill shit that i will never need too. the roland vp9000 variphrase is the ill shit for timestrecthing though. Realtime

hey binger0, do you happen to have the E-mu CDROM series that came with the ESI2000? if so, would you be interested in a little burning and swapping? i have a massive sample library to offer. i'm picking up a second hand Ultra sampler and i'd love to have all those libraries. it's not really cheating since they all included those disks for free anyway.
i had an ESI4000 years ago and it was awesome.

Don't the yamaha's have real time timestretch?

The VP and VariOS is VERY EXPENSIVE 4 What it Can Do .................

i remember all the stores blowing out the VP9000 for just a few hundred bucks a couple years ago. almost bought one just based on the ridiculous price cut.

so that vp9000, anybody got one? is it ill or what.....realtime?

so pretty much rack samplers are just samplers that have sounds on them already, and process the sound alot better? if anybody got any links to some decent ones, hook it up... so i can compare and stuff and get to know... i'm already on it, but i like to hear from real live people too

i got the akai s1000 it dose the job and look into buying a sampler that can be linked to recycle if you can find one that you can midi to recycle you can strech any thing you want

no no, rack samplers do not have sounds in the already. they are just more powerful and flexible than something like an MPC, which is geared for drums and rhythm. a rack sampler allows you to create multi samples, layer sounds all over the place, and have lots of synthesis options to further process the sounds. you can buy sample libraries for them and load them in, allowing you to play say, a grand piano all the way across your keyboard. or you can sample your own sounds and go crazy with tweaking them into whatever you want. great for sound design. the hardware rack sampler world is kind of dead, due to the surge in software. i still love hardware though. the newest ones out there are the E-mu Ultra samplers, the Akai Z Series and the Yamaha A5000. look up some reviews on line to get an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of each one.

it was insane when it first came out years ago, it also cost $3000 back then. but technology caught up and blew past it pretty quick and it got left in the dust. musicians friend was blowing them out for $300 at the end. the Variphrase stretching is good, not amazing, but good. remember though, the VP9000 is VERY limited in the fact that it only has 8 voices of polyphony. yes, 8?!?! by today's standards that is just pretty damn lame indeed. i imagine anyone who has touched a piece of software or any other sampler in the last 5 years would be very disappointed in the VP9000 and would outgrow it pretty quickly. if you need realtime timestretching pick up Ableton Live and enjoy. just my 2 cents.

if all you're looking for is really good timestretching, check out this rack sampler i know of called a PC - other offshoots (which many think are better) are actually called Macs, but i haven't had experience on them.

these "PC"s are able to timestretch your samplers flawlessly using mathematics--all on a highly customizeable and user friendly interface!

odds are, you have a PC already!!!

save yourself some bones and use sound forge...there's a timestretch calculator floating around on the web somewhere, Penfold dropped it on another post some days back in Tips and Tricks or what have you.

its in lampdogs sig, the calculator. Ableton live is hands down the best timestretch i used. But if u have a 2kxl, a rack offers things like filters, more mulittimbrailty, some come with effects, alot more editing features, so it wouldnt be a bad idea to get a rack then sequnce with the mpc.

Actually Most Rack Samplers have no sounds but do often include sounds on a CD that is Included in the original box.................................

Most Rack Samplers R designed to Play Multi-samples IE whole Sound sets or Multi Sampled Instruments......................
