whats a good bpm speed for rap?

people have been telling me my beats are too slow. then i cant speed them up to much cause i got a sample in there going too slow. whats are some good bpms to start with that MCs like?

if you are the producer, u make your own tempo, peeps or artist can offer advice.... but maybe u can try burning what u produce to CD, take a DJ's CD Player, and speed it up with that and see how it sounds.... just an idea, and see if u like it better that way... but again to me, i think the tempo is definitely what u like not what they like... but if u trying to sell ya stuff, u gotta give em what they want... goodluck pimpin

yea it depends on how fast you want your drums...but average speed anywhere between 80 and 100

so are you speeding up and slowing down your samples to fit that speed or are they just ending up between 80 and 100 bpm? see, im dealing with a track now and its at 137 bpm but drums are at 1/2 time...so its really like a beat at like 69 bpm....

well, it depends on what im doing with a sample. a lot of the time ill build my drums around the sample. but a lot of the time (without doing anything to the sample) it ends up somewhere around 90 bpm.

most of the time the sample is ending up between that bpm. but i like tweaking my samples before using them so it changes the bpm. if you want fast drums, start from 90 bpm and up...but it all depends on how you program your drums...69 bpm is really slow. doubled is 138bpm. which would still make them slow (depending on how you make your drums). try this....make your hihats hit closer. so instead of: tick.........tick.........tick........tick make it: tick...tick...tick...tick...

do your hihats first, and that'll be like your guide to the rest of your drums. so bang out some fast hihats, then the rest should follow...

Yeah, I set my MPC to default at 92 bpm. Then I adjust from there once a beat starts to take shape. (Unless I'm starting with a sample, then I do whatever the sample dictates.)

i once wrote a track for a local hiphopper and he didnt like anything above 110BPM to spit on

So anything between 70 & 110 will do

How do you set it the 2K?Or is that even possible?

little secret:
you can make a slow beat sound fast and vice versa. There are tons of ways to do this -- from double time hats (word to Charles Wright) to how you quantize it, to how the sample comes in. If you're beats are sounding to slow and they are actually not, there are ways to make em sound faster.
