sometimes when i've got a sequence happening and i find that my bassline (or whatever) is too loud and its say on track 3. Sometimes i just adjust the velocity on the main screen (down the bottom right).

I do this because its easier than going in somtimes and changing the individual note hits etc in step edit.

But i seem to be having problems with volume levels in song mode and im wondering if it could be because i adjust track volumes this way?

Does anyone else adjust track volumes like this?? or do u think i should be going into the notes themselves...

How do u guys fix track volume issues??

thanks.

yup, I adjust track velocity all the time. I love it. i usually do it in the master sequence that all other song mode copies come from, so all song mode steps match at first, but as the song progresses I will change the relative volume throughout the song if it is called for. try to adjust all that to be the same at first, then adjust to match the song.

oh sweet.. glad to see that someone else does it too.. i thought it might have the cause of my troubles in song mode

(ive have volume issues when i convert to song mode.. the volumes arnt the same as when i listen to them in asctual sequences by themselves..)

and so i thought i was using the velocity wrong (but i thought.. what other use is there).

Good to see im on the right track cause i use it on every track eventually to "mix"

thanks for the reply,..

The problem with adjusting you volume with velocity is you are also changing the "velocity" portion of the attack which can change the overall sound of your sample. Another way to co about this is to assign MIDI CC 7, which is volume control to your Q link slider or even to something like the mod wheel on your controller. This allows you control volume without changing velocity. You can also pop your MPC into record overdub and use the Q link or mod wheel and record those changes real time and they will of course then play back when you run your sequence - esentially its automated mixing with your mod wheel (of course any midi controller will work this trick)

yar- in fact i spend loads of time abalancing stuff- dont wanna mess with the faders on a channel which shares elements ill just trun that particular element down with its vel% on the front screen, nifty little feature

It's great with external gear too, when velocity controls more than just volume the character of the sound can change as well, so you can really change the variation as well.

Fader Pro, will CC7 control an individual sample's volume or the overall volume of the sampler?

This is exactly right. My tracks are more keyboard based, but the same applies. Using velocity to change volume also changes the way keyboard parts will sound. As the attack goes down, so goes the dynamic range and intensity.

It will control the overall volume of anything on that midi channel...

yeah see that's like global pitchbend in that way.

velocity doesn;t have to control volume on any keyboard worth it's salt. Track velocity is great.

can't you just lower the volume in the mixer page?

That would be way to easy...

sometimes you use a sound in more than one place and it needs to be softer in a section. look at it like changing the tuning in the sample edit screen vs. using note variation to tune it in the sequence.

yall dont bug out on me for asking this

but why on my 2k, is 100% velocity as loud as i can get the track volume to go. it goes up to 127 i believe, but after 100, theres no difference in velocity that i can hear.

Velocity and volume are two different things...related but not the same...velocity typically affects the attack portion of your sound while volume controls the level of the entire sample. Velocity control is a dynamic thing...

The velocity control on the main screen goes to 200%.. ive never really noticed too much change in the dynamic range of samples after ive adjusted them using the velocity on the main screen..

i still dont understand why the sequence's have different volume levels after ive converted to song mode.. i assumed it was because of the velocity changes in the track.. but nobody else seems to be experiencing these problems though..right??
