I need help with midi.

I have a MPC 1000, Triton Extreme, and Akai DPS 12 multi-track that I want to midi together. I can sequence the Triton on the MPC, but I am not sure how to have all three hooked up together. Do I need to get some kind of Midi control box or something?

The DPS has a midi in and out, the 1000 has 2 midi in 2 midi out, and the triton has a midi in, out and thru. I would like to be able to sequence on the MPC 1000, and eventually track everything out on the DPS.

Also, can I sequence more than one program at a time from the Triton on the MPC? For example if I want one track to be bass, one track to be a lead, etc. etc.? I can only figure out how to sequence whatever prog was currently loaded on the Triton.

Can I save the prog. info, and settings on the Triton on the MPC itself?

Sorry if these are basic questions, but I never had to use midi much at all in the past.

I think you should just hook it up the same way as you did when you only had the 1k and the dps. Don't worry about the triton. As long as its hooked up to your mpc it should sync along with the dps.

1k- ins and outs into dps 12 ins and outs
1k- 2nd ins and outs into triton extreme's ins and outs.

True, sounds reasonable. Thanks Grimay.

Does anyone know how I can sequence more than one Triton program at a time on the MPC? Like I said I can only figure out how to sequence what is currently loaded. It's frustating to me not being able to sequence multiple parts in the triton with the mpc.

Just make sure that you turn your local control off on the triton and turn off tritons sequence control so that you dont get double triggering, just go in your midi setup on the triton and touch the local control checkbox.

I haven't actually did the triton to mpc midi thing in a long while.
I'll brush up on it tonight and post back up.

what up Lamp?

I think I got the basic midi stuff down. I want to be able to sequence different programs and combis from the Triton on to different tracks of the MPC 1000. How do I do this?

I haven't troubleshot yet but I'm gonna think this through real quick cause it's late right now.

Each midi track on mpc needs to correspond with the mid track number on triton. Load the 16 track w/ programs you want on triton.

I don't think you can browse the programs on triton via mpc, u know what I'm saying, like wheeling through 128 tracks cause the mpc can only do 32 right but loaded on the triton you only have 16, you are therefore limited to 16 on triton am I right? That would mean ONLY 16 can be accessed from triton to mpc. Different midi track on mpc means different loaded triton midi program number. On the triton in order to GIVE that program a midi number it has to be assigned to a track (leaving u with only 16). Ya get it. I'm thinking logically but I'll do it first thing in the morning cause it's 1230am sunday right now and I TOTALLY forgot about it the other day.

Sorry if I let you down but it was on my mind until I got home tired and went to sleep.

I think many people just want to browse triton programs via mpc and u can only browse those 16 that have been assigned a midi channel number.

Someone correct me if I'm just buggin out and way off base here.

going to bed now.. screen is outta focus.

in order to use the triton extreme as a sound module you need to.
connect the mpc midi a out to triton extreme midi in.

you need to have triton 16 tracks filled with instruments that you want to use, make sure that all the triton tracks are assigned 1-16 midi ie:
seq, menu, page 2, midi chan tab at the bottom.
trk1 midi chnl 1, trk2 midi chnl 2, trk3 midi chnl 3 etc etc.

on the mpc main menu seq1 trk1, cursor down to drum and scroll to:
s midi 1a device 01 -> this will be the first track inst on the triton.

on the mpc main menu seq1 trk2, cursor down to drum and scroll to:
s midi 2a device 02 -> this will be the second track inst on the triton.

so forth and so on until u reach 16 midi instruments on the mpc.

you can only access 16 triton midi instruments at a time (or course)
so if you want to change and instrument you'll have to dial another instrument to any one of the triton tracks ON THE TRITON.

Now you are able to seq 16 triton midi instruments and whatever else drums you have inside the mpc. If you have another sound module as well then connect it the same way as the triton and use:
mpc main menu seq1 trk17, cursor down to drum and scroll to:
s midi 1b device 17 -> this will be the first inst on the sound module.

you get the idea from here. try that and let me know what really good.

You can browse the Triton via MPC. You just have to do a MIDI Dump to so do. The way Lamp said to MIDI the Triton with the MPC is the correct way to do it, I use it that way all the time with my MPC 4000, and I did it the same way with my MPC2000xl too. The MPC is the master of course.
I think you should be able to hook up you DPS tracker with you second MIDI port on the MPC.
