You're right, Akai doesn't have official info about 2.0 on their site yet.
You could look into the manual for the current (1.0.7) operating system.
http://www.akaipro.com/supportdocuments.html#MPC1000

With the 2.0 version it will get many extra features.
Did you check these video's http://www.mpc-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=38069

If you really wanna learn about some of those you could download the mpc2500 manual from Akai.

I'd definitely get the 1000

if you dont have an mpc you wont even know the basic features. the 1000's features are good without the 2.0 os.

i can make music just fine without the 2.0. the unit is 100% operational without those added features.

whether you get a xl or 1000 you are still going to have to learn the basic features first.

there is alot of 2.0 hype around here. and that hype shouldnt be what guide you to a specific mpc. simply becuz the os hasnt been released yet.

since you a new to the mpc series, YOU have to be the one to decide on your own. i would suggest going to a GC and tryin the different mpc series out for yourself.

buy a 1000 and try to learn its features. and if it isnt for you return it before 30 days expires. same for the xl. buy em new and take em home for a couple of weeks. if you dont like em then just return them.

if you are ready for the mpc you should become familiar with the basic functions within a couple of days.

dont base you choice on a OS that hasnt been released. especially when you have yet to become familiar with the basics of the unit.

I'd not go with the 2000XL. I can imagine the storage options being a bit of a pain in the arse these days, with zip disks not being widely available anymore, CDs not enabling you to save your own stuff without going through a computer, and the MCD being an additional expense. That coupled with the low memory and the fact that it seems the 2000 range is almost officially defunct. If you can deal with the smaller pads and more compact interface of the 1000, I'd say that's the one to go for.

I think I am the one who told u to get OS 2.0 on illmuzik forums right?

more features that u probably will want in the future for the same price
some bugs will probably also be fixed

why not get that? its a no brainer

cuz bro it aint for nothing
a lot of ppl tell me to get teh mpc 1000 its more worth it...
but the following argument is always always and i mean always in my head..
everytime i read the scratch magazine or everytime i read about producers... most of the time they have an mpc 2000xl in their tool box... not a lot of the producers have mpc 1000
sorry guys its just... this is a big investment for me... and a good one... im sure i aint gonna regret wether or not i get the mpc 1000 or 2000xl... i just wanna know which ones best

You're not dumb, there are just certain things you need to know about the MPC. Do some research and I'm sure you'll find what you need to know. I wasn't up to speed with the technical aspect of the MPC until I purchased one myself and became familiar with it. If I may suggest 1 thing though... If you are considering investing upwards of 1600 to 1800 on an MPC2000xl, why not look into the MPC2500? Or, save some cash and go with the 1000. Either way, I would suggest either of these over the xl.

nah forget scratch magazine. forget what other producers use.

if you got skillz, it doesnt really matter what you use. just cuz just blaze makes hot beats with the 4000, doesnt mean when you get it, your beats are going to sound like his.

you have to try a unit in order to know if it will suit your needs.

i dont think your questions are dumb. i applaud you for researching before you buy something.

but when you buy a car, you test drive it. same for the mpc. hit Guitar Center and plan on spending the day in there. I guarantee you, it will make it alot easier for you decide what you want.

u make a good point but what i was thinkin of doing was buying a new mpc 1000 or a used mpc 2000xl
itrs hard to find a used mpc 2500 cuz it just came out

By klixxx Thu Dec 29, 2005 7:20 pm
emfinite im gonna do what u said for sure and go spend a day at a guitar center... thx for da advice
but only one thing i gotta ask you... one of my friends told me ure skillz can only be as good as the equipment ure using...
its not for anything but i dont wanan buy the mpc 1000 and a year from now tell myself damn i could have done a lot more with the mpc 2000xl cuz of the extra features that it has
i know im still the new kid on the block... i might be thinking too far ahead... but i realy wanna make the best decision i can
thx a lot boss

A mpc1000 (with os 2.0) can de more than a 2000xl

A lot of this is because the 2000 has been out a lot longer than the 1000, so more people are going to have the 2000, and there's no real need to own a 1000 if you already have a 2000, or vice versa. A lot of it's also some strange kind of word of mouth conservatism in the hip hop porducing world, where lots of producers fall into the same trap you seem to be, seeing that lots of other producers use 2000s, so think that you need to own a 2000, despite the fact that (especially with the new OS) the 1000 is just a 2000 in a smaller box. Some people still insist on using 60s or 3000s, despite them both being hopelessly outdated by todays standards, in an attempt at "keeping it real". Don't fall for it

your friend has a point. but the new OS features arent going to make or break your beats or your workflow.

the 1k as is, is as good if not better than xl. before the OS talk many were happy with their purchases.

look how many people who currently own the 1k. you think they have their 1ks underneath their beds waiting for the OS, or using them?

the xl is great, but its features have progressed into better features and design found in the 2500. and the closest thing to the 2500 is the 1k.

the way i see it ... just by reading the stuff u guys have to tell me... the 1000 is a much better buy then the xl... im gonna get a machine thats almost the same as the xl.. but a lot less expensive
RIGHT ?

If you use a computer at all for your beat making or multi tracking the 1k is the way to go. When I switched from the 2k to the 1k my work flow became very streamlined and in turn helped me get tracks done faster and in my opinion, sounding better.
