Recording audio CDs

Its was never promised but its here..audio CD recording.

CDM-25 can even read and write...erase and rewrite CD-RW disks!

This function will be great for the guys that like/really want this function. I just got finished burning a CD. It will take your wav files and burn them to regular CD audio tracks..so the burned CD will playback in practically every CD player. Window's Media Player is bumpin the CD I just burned with the MPC 2500.

So now you can get the direct outs of your mixer (with what every you hook your midi up to) and put it in the akai's direct inputs and record directly and just mix it from the akai.

That's one way of doing things if you just want a quick burn off material still in work. But I wouldn't go as far as mixing some serious work on the MPC. I would leave that to Pro Tools/LE, Nuendo/Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer, or any other software DAW....

just to do something quick or for someone who doesnt have daw. but ya i do all my ish in pro fools

How much have you guys paid for the CD drive? I've seen it listed for $200 in the US.

In the UK they are retailing at £150 ($262)

What's the chance of a price drop? I'm not one for bitching about prices but £150 seems mad expensive for a CD-RW drive. I could understand if it was DVD.

you can go to GC and just bug the ish out of the deal and make him give it to you for $150 thats what i did =)

Is the official drive the only one that will work ?

Not too sure but Akai haven't tested any other drives as far as i know.

I'll hang around and see if anyone tries any third party drives! You can buy Laptop CD-RW drives for under £40.

Does this mean that you can record audio in realtime, i.e., as the MPC receives it, or do you need to record to memory first, then burn afterwords?

You can't do it in real-time, you must record to a wav file (memory) and then burn that wav.

One drawback is if your song already takes up your whole memory, in that case you're out of luck.

If your song takes up the entire 128MBs...that is one helluva long song and you should really move that material to a computer DAW for recording, mixing, and burning.

The CDM25 cost me $200. A little on the expensive side for a CD burner but what the heck....the MPC was more than $1500. It is also a DVD Rom drive as well but doesn't burn DVDs. This function would have been even better if it was added.

As far as 3rd party drives...I tried several with no sucess. I spent almost $100 on a Toshiba CD-RW/DVD drive in hopes that it would work in the 2500..that is now collecting dust
