S3000 & S3000XL Difference in Sound?

Hey folks.

I am looking for the nearest souding sampler to the MPC-3000.

Should I pick the (normal) S3000 or the advanced version of it, the S3000 XL?

The CD3000 XL would be a favourite because it has an internal CD-drive...

I don't have either of them to give you my personal opinion. However, I was reading up on them yesterday. I'm thinking about getting an s3000xl myself. Here are some good links...

I realise you may not be need to be sold on the unit, rather the cd vers or not, but heres my 2 pence anyway....

i have a s3000xl, bought it off my college about 6 months back for £20....
i also have a mpc1k, and to be honest, have not had the energy or reason to mess with the 3kxl.
If you ask me, compared to the mpc, it is TOO deep to be truly creative without getting bored... there are so many things to tweak, change, or **** up that you would find yourself messing for ages...
I am in the long term looking for a mpc 60, so should really try to grip the 3000xl, as i may require its "power" if i hook up with a 60......
I may try running some samples through it and my 1k to see if I (or you) can tell the difference (and post em if you want).

I have an S3000, and I love it. It is alittle difficult to get used to at first. The menus are deep, theres alot of options. But once you get used to it, its an open world. It sounds wonderful, it has great filters, massive time, and even a 4 band eq if you have the upgrade for it. I've always wondered myself if the S3000XL is much different then the S3000? Sound wise, or menu wise. I'm not sure but I'd love to know what the differences are. I'm doing a test with a friend of mine to compare the S3000 to the MPC3000 just to compare if the sampler is infact the same and sounds identical. I will let everyone know when I get the results

I got a MPC 60 and I am very happy that I have spent my money for it...

My idea was to combine best of both worlds... Drums come from the 60 and the more to be dynamic things from the S3000(XL)...

The difference in sounding would be interesting to know...

Maybe the S3000 is more closer to the MPC-3000 than other versions of it...

What it boils down to is the converter factor. Alot of people say the 3000 is bigger and warmer than the 3000xl. Tons of Electronic artists use the 3000xl and I like it but the two do have a difference in sound. I would say it would be similar to the MPC 2000xl vs the MPC 3000. Is you do get a S3000xl do yourself a favor and get the S3200xl instead as it comes stock with the EB16 effects board as well as the pro filter board . Those are great for your 3000xl and the 32000xl has them pre installed. The CD3000xl does not sample it only plays back samples, That kinda sucks. If you are going down the S road I say these are the only ones to look at... S1100 , S3000 / S3200 , S3200xl , and S6000 Studio. If you shop carefully you can find them at a reasonable price. Again these models because they come with more options stock and you will end up buying the options down the road for almost what you paid for the sampler.

Also the 3200xl has XLR ins and outs!! It is a sleeper!!

Your welcome. I believe the s3000 will give you the sound you are looking for . It is a super bad sampler . I even remember an older article with Fatboy Slim Praising ( Like He Should ) the s3000 and saying there was a big difference in sound between the 3000 and 3000xl. I have an MPC 3000 and 2000xl they both shine in different areas but the 3000 is simply more old school in sound ( Which I like ) . Enjoy and most importiantly get a good deal and don't get scammed.

I use a S3000XL with a Mpc 60 II/Mpc 3000/SP1200. I love it. I paid $50.00 for it with maxed out memory (32 mb). The Waveform editing is tight. chopping samples is pretty effortless. I can truly forget about my mpc2000xl now that i have it. I only sweated that machine for the editing features. I recommend anyone looking for a good rack mount sampler to check into it. It even reads S950/S1000 disks, not to mention I could load S3000XL disks right into my MPC 3000. Hot to Death

As far as sound is concern, I think the S3000xl an a Mpc3000 sound very similar, almost identical. At the end of the day it is the sectional editing that has won me over. I like to sample into it, chop up my sample, save it to disk and load the sample right into my mpc3000. I always hated the zone edit thing in the mpc 3000.

count bass d uses an s3000. i don't know if it is an xl or not.

this is MY opinion.
as you see in my signature i got "some" samplers.
mpc3000 sounds similar to s1100. s3000xl got the engine of mpc2000. it´s been released the same time.
i got a s3200xl. it´s a great machine. it´s not as easy to get as a s3000xl. i often sample things with it, save it and load it into my mpc3000 (mpc can read s3200xl files). greatest difference: s3200xl is able to save eq settings to a sample. s3200 or s3000 can´t to this. you also can connect s3200xl or s3000xl to a pc via scsi -> chop samples by e.g. recycle -> drop it over to s3200xl/s3000xl -> load it into mpc3000. that´s a quite good way to work with an mpc3000 these days because this way you don´t really need a card reader or usb.

FYI: The CD3000XL Does in fact have sample inputs (1/4' & Digital). The original CD3000i does not have them.

Well according to vintage synth explorer, the S3000Xl has the same specs as the S3000 but those are just specs....
