Missing files bug

In LOAD mode, while I scroll through my folders of beats, when I get to the folder labeled, "BEAT 089," all the files disappear from the display. And if I direct the cursor to the ROOT directory, all of the folders disappear as well; it's as if I've inserted a blank CF card. If I reinsert the card, all the files are there again until I scroll to folder 89, when they disappear again. I've checked the card in my computer, via card reader, and all the files are intact and there, so I know that the files aren't completely absent from the card.

I also tried renaming all of the folders from "BEAT 001" to "0001," etc. hoping it had something to do with the spaces. But no luck.

Hopefully this isn't a bug, and just a weird glitch with my memory card; I don't remind replacing that (Kingston 512MB). I have made some beats recently, so maybe it has something to do with when the card reads a certain capacity, perhaps. I don't know... I just thought I should report this.

Yep its a bug Ep. I get that sometime. Like you said. The files are there but they disappear everytime you get to that folder and makes all the contents of the root disappear after you touch that folder but its still there. It usually means that something in that folder is going corrupt or a system file has been copied in there while saving without your knowledge. The system file thing is hard to explain but I'll try.

When that happened to me through trouble shooting I dragged the file off my harddrive to my desktop and tried to delete the file from the mpc. The file would not delete from the mpc, so what I did was delete just the contents of the folder, most of the contens were deleted like program,project files etc..except a couple of wave files would not delete. OK now I tried many things to do so and what worked was me transfering some dummy waves that I wasnt using back into that file to change the contents a little then tried to delete the file and it did so,go figure

Now the kicker is the folder that I dragged(copied) to my desktop did the same fuhking thing but kept saying it couldnt delete it because of a system file was still in the folder type message and I had to repeat the process over to delete the file off of my desk top. I already had a copy of the file from when I first created the project. I reinstalled the original copy and all was well.

This has happened to me a few times and sometimes I would get a "wrong file" or "corrupt file" error after a few times of trying to load it. The key is to back up right after you creat because I beleive that somewhere in the reloading process after a while a file gets corrupt and a wacky invisible systemfile is palced in there that will not allow you to delete it until you take the measures I just explained.

It dosnt happen all the time but enough.

#1 - If you have a HD installed, back up via USB - format the drive - Restore via USB.
Do the same for your CF Cards.

#2 - You shouldn't have anything but Folders on the Root Directory.

I had the same problem when I first updated to 1.21.

All of my projects are in files and it still happens from time to time.
I never do anything without creating a file first.

I saved all my files to the computer, and formatted my CF cards, but it still happened when I transferred everything back. I think what BDRAKE explained was absolutely correct. I've since deleted all of the empty folders in the root directory (ones that were corrupted and erased the contents files), and everything seems to be working fine for now.

Out of all the bugs effecting the 2500 this one has got to be the worst.Ok so................call me slow or whatever,but how exactly can we work around this?Does creating a file first solve the problem?I just want to know how to avoid this happening in the future.


Moreover..could deleting a sample that was originally in a program be part of the problem here? I remember deleting a sample while I was in trim mode, I didn't delete it from the CF though...then I saved the program.

In here I´ve been reading a lot about the "workarounds" to avoid these "wrong file/wrong directory" bugs.
The most acclaimed seems to be the one "Save entire memory". But not even this one works on my machine. It says "wrong directory/file not found"

An idea anyone ?

I've tried the same thing and no luck here either. Here is a thread resently started to try to get to the bottom of how to get around this problem I hope it yields some answers. hope this helps.
