HUSTLING do pay off, macbook pro, mpc 1k, zoom 1266, micron

aight.. this the internet so need to get into all that.. but uh lets jus say i have recently acquired the following:

mpc 1000
alesis micron
zoom 1266
macbook pro 17"


aight the dude i "got" the mac from musta made beats cuz on the macbook he has Ableton Live and something called Garage Band plus a whole mess of other programs that aint' been installed yet...

Doing my research and all that it would seem i got EVERYTHING and then some to make FULL BLOWN custom tracks...

I'm hittin up the internet now, getting my reseach on(d*m i love the internet! and free public library) mY question is How WOULD some of yall go about this.. i.e. making beats..

Like i sed i'm doing my own d*m research, tryin to learn and see whats up.. but i want to get some feedback from some of yall actually in the trenches.. see what yall think and get that feedback

what would YOU keep, what should i sell? i mean i got no interest in computers and i knw a guy round the way who would pick up the macbook for $800 easy.... but at the same time i feel i been blessed to "get" all this... and jus want to use it to the upmost potential i mean i jus saw abelton live is like $500 and its on here already.. not sure really what all ableton live does or is...

the mpc is on ver1.0 nothing new on it. from info i got here its still at 16mb and not the new memory..

aight then, like i sed jus want to see what the next man's perspective is on all this..i'ma probably end up keepin the whole joint on some up in smoke ish..

i'm Fin'to make beats on the mpc and use the micron for bass right?, get a good mic and record demo's to the zoom.. don't konw what i would use the macbook and ableton live for.. plus should i even bother toyin wit this Garage Band? what is that....

if you're trying to make a hot azz track like "Karma" you're gonna need some ill vinyl. Go diggin' my friend. Study the shit you like.....Hitek is a very good one to study.

Read a lot of shyt from here, it's helped me sooo much. Just pay attention to whats going on and what you like.

and, do what lampdog said as well. you have a decent setup - learn it in and out.

oh, garageband is a recording program, similar yet simpler than protools, you'll need an interface.

Whats that zoom thing? If it's a multi-track recorder, you could sell it and get an interface to record into garageband.

aight fella's jus finished readin the manual.. what a joke, so i'ma try to read it again this weekend see if it sticks.. n i been on the net for like 2 hours jus researchin and researchin... i was wondering if any yall could break it down for a new jack..what mean all this? the art of choppin on the mpc 1000...

i see posts where people are sayin ish like this:

Usually chop my samples up into 4 sections [1 per bar] and have them assigned to different pads with the "NOTE ON" function set in play mode so I can play it out as long as I want.

I had this problem with a sample the other day, and as the others have said, chopping in the right places so that you can sequence the notes with the timing you want is the key here. Once you have the timing fixed, a little timestretching to fill any gaps and you're there.


I just sample 10s to 30s of the track containing parts I want and then proceed to chopping it up in 4, 8, or 16 pads on the MPC 1000. Chopping into small pieces work so much better than a whole sampled loop, you can flip the sounds in anyway your mind allows.

what are they all getting at? I'm not findin this info in the manual? what i'm gettin is you get a sample and and chop it up right.. to what end and how is that done? I mean in trim mode it doesn't show you where in the sample you are in as its playin.. ?? its like i'm blind or something..

aight hope yall can clear it up or help a confused brother out..
