are you talking about hooking up your mpc to the line-input of your computer? or transferring samples from your computer to your mpc?

Sorry about that but I should have said more. In the past I remember reading something about an S2800 being able to go to a computer by way of the SCISI interface. I was wondering if I could hook my MPC up to a server I have that has a SCISI inter face. I found the cable but was not will to try at this time, but I am looking for away around upgrading to the MCD. Not that I can not upgrade, but I am looking at other options as well.
I remember a software that Akia had out some years ago, that was based on the idea of having your system run to the SCISI port in a computer.

Again the idea would be that I would have access to all of the hard drives on my server (over 100GB) and for the spead. I have had an issue with my Zip and Jaz Drives going down, and just dont wont to risk working with them any more.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to hook up your MPC to the computer to transfer files. Your best bet, if you don't wanna work with scsi anymore, is to upgrade to a multi card drive.

Well actually if your 2Kxl has an internal SCSI device installed (zip drive /cf reader) then you can connect your computer via a scsi interface to the scsi port of your mpc. This will allow you to transfer data directly from the computer to the internal drive of your MPC. This will only work with INTERNAL SCSI devices. Most internal devices found in the 2Kxl are NOT SCSI devices but IDE (zip /cf reader). So this will NOT work for most mpc 2Kxl.

Cool, that is what I wanted to know. I was about to buy the cable but I dont have anything inside. I was thinking about upgrading to the MCD but I have only found one place on the net to sale it. I wanted to start more of a price war you know. Right now, all I am seeing is $149 (+ Shipping). Anyone know of a better price. I know I might be asking much, but when you think about it, this is the internet, and we should be able to find better than one place on the net.

But at the same time, you have to do what you have to do.

Ok now this might be asking too much, but I think this price is something I have been looking for, but I am now wondering about getting power to it. I looked at a friends MPC 2000XL MCD and the power cable looked a bit odd. I have not been able to find anything like it in the store, and I wonder how you might work with it or around it. I'm upgrading from the Floppy and not the Zip so I am not sure how I might deal with the power issue. Any idea.

DO NOT CONNECT YOUR MPC SCSI PORT TO YOUR COMPUTER. BAD CALL. PROVEN TO BE VERY BAD, ASK ANYONE WHO KNOWS.
Steer well clear of doing this. Firstly, it just wont work. At all. Ever. The reason is that your MPC and all Computers both are SCSI controllers.
This means they both want to be the master of the SCSI data chain, and thus won't acknowledge each other. You can hook it up, direct or through other devices, but computer and MPC refuse to 'see' one another.
MORE IMPORTANTLY: if you happen to have a PC (instead of mac), the connector is actually paralell port, not scsi. Same connector, different protocol. You hook a scsi device like MPC to ANYTHING paralell port, even a paralell zip drive, and not only will it not work, it will probably blow the scsi fuse in your MPC. Even worse, it could damage the MPC and your PC beyond just a fuse, which would cost you major dough.
If you have an MCD model, just get a card reader for your computer, and make sure everything's the same standard. Or if you don't have that, get a usb zip for your computer, and a SCSI Zip for your MPC. Then just use MPC programmaker to make programs on PC/MAC, and pop that zip into your MPC.

Not true the solution I described above has been done and works but once again only for scsi devices. If you don't believe me ask mpc3000 (the user not the machine). And yes some people actually have scsi controllers in their pc, I really do know the difference between a parallel port and a scsi port. Of course if you were to connect the parallel port of your computer to your MPC then we're talking a different story.

I agree where you say that the computer won't see the MPC that is true , but the computer's scsi interface (if it has one) will definately 'see' and internal SCSI device in the MPC. That's also why I kept repeating that this only works if your internal sorage option is SCSI and not IDE (like most internals cf readers and zip drives.)

SIDE NOTE: When using this method to trtansfer samples from the computer to the internal scsi device in your MPC, make SURE you're not in the LOAD or save screen on your MPC since that might cause a conflict between your MPC and your COmputer on who has the hand on the drive.

Right right, when it has an internal scsi device. But I believe his does not.
Therefore, that sh** is highly UNRECOMMENDED.

Wait I'm confused. What model of the MPC has an internal scsi chain instead of IDE?

xl has both scsi and ide, I got microtech pcd in there and work like a charm so it should work indeed. That which you can not do is request a read or perform a write at the same time from both mpc or pc.

The good ole 2kxl has an internal scsi port. If you connect yourself (akai does not sell em like that) a SCSI zip drive or card reader then it will work.
A standard MPC2kxl won't do this of course.

Ok, cool that's sounds dope. Thanks for the tip, I'ma get that part you mentioned and go strait into my mac!
