I'm getting so pissed at this thing now...this is the second time this has happened to me. I have a recommended/tested HD and when i go to create a new folder, it freezes up...after it happened the first time, i reformatted and it was fine for awhile...now it just happened again and i'm in the process of refomatting once again. if this shit keeps happening then i may have to get rid of this thing.. i mean wuts the point of using a piece of equipment that can't even save all of the time...this problem better be fixed by the next OS cause i mean, why have the option to install a hard drive if it's always gonna be glitchy? And this is an OS problem right? i just wanna verify that it is an OS problem and not an issuse on the hardware side of things that you can't really do anything about

I was the first and ONLY person with this problem so far until you now. For a while I had to make my folder first (not knowing what the name of the project was going to be) and then had to work, and save it into the folder. If not it would just freeze during "NAME FOLDER" and I would lose major projects. After a month of that, the folders and files started turning into "!$$@!!$##!$$!#$" and nothing would load, just a bunch of letters and symbols "!$$!!&!". Everything slowly deteriorated to that, not that thats what you have to look forward to (I hope not) but it was part of the progression of the problem. I had to just remove the HD all together for it to stop. It was the Toshiba recommended and tested 80GB Drive.

By the way, if Jahrome sees this he's going to tell you that its a hardware issue.

only person? this topic has been discussed so many times..this is a major issue that hopfully Akai is working on....when you said Toshiba 80GB drive, did you mean the Hitachi? cause the only tested Toshiba HD is a 40GB one...that could be y it didn't work for you...mine is the Hitachi so unless Akai didn't test it enough, the HD should be fine...i just really hope they can get this straightened out before this happenes to me again

the issue is "data allocation" which i don't understand. however, whether this is due to HW or SW, there is a software fix in newer versions of the os for the 1000. there's a jj os for the 2500 coming out soon that will take care of it, but that still leaves akai os users in hot water. hopefully akai will take care of this bug - the new folder freeze is probably the worst problem plaguing these machines

Until the problem gets fixed, do what I do. I have one folder saved to my Root menu and that folder contains 50 or so un-named folders to work with. When you need to save, open the folder menu, choose one of the blank unoccupied folders and re-name and save. Then you can go back and move it around according to how you have your HD set up. I personally have never had the "new folder bug" problem beacuse I just avoid working the steps that lead up to it. Also, make sure you back up your HD at least once a week. The problem definetly needs fixing but until then we all have to work around it.

Sorry if I'm wrong, but months ago when I searched the whole entire forum for this issue and nothing turned up, I was going crazy about it asking "who else is having this issue" and nobody said anything and then people started saying that they NEVER heard of it before..so that left me with "I was the first and ONLY person with this problem so far until..". Anyway, I did mean Hitachi 80GB Drive, oops. I hope they fix it because that was a main selling point for me.

If you are using the lastest OS and have formatted your drive, you will have no problems with creating folders. I have none and I actually own/use an MPC 2500 unlike distortedtekno.
