CLICK SOUND ON OPEN HI HAT

I was getting a terrible clicking sound sound on my open hi hat but not on all zones.
I went into the sample section and there's nothing wrong with the sample. I turned down all of the levels, still no improvement. Went to FILTER 1, and it was set to 2POL cutoff freq. 100. i turned off the filter and the distorton/clicking sound disapeared.

I noticed that all off my drums samples had the same filter settings as mentioned afore. I turned off all of the KG FILTERs for all drums and couldn't notice any difference in sound (with the execption of the disapearance problem with the hi hat). It's an Akai 1000 disc. I was just wondering why all programs would have the same settings.

As a starting point, shouldn't all filters be off and only used when tweaking is needed?

Clicks and pops at the start/end of the wavforms are sometimes cause by sharp drops/spikes in volume ie. when the wave form suddenly spikes high at the very start is common, due to peeps not starting the sample at an exact zero cross point and having a smooth ramping waveform flowing on into the body of the sample.

I use soundforge (wave editor) to correct many of my wayward samples.

if you have the envelope of the fillter setup so that the release of the note causes the filter to go into hi pass, it makes a (short) sweep and maybe the end of that sweep is (causing) the pop. so check your filter envelope settings

That sounds like the envelope is causing sudden waveform changes resulting is pops, clicks.

Thanks guys for the tips.
The clicks were DURING sound and only on the open hat. After turning off the 2POL FILTER it disapeared. Since the sound went away, I'm not that worrried that my MPC is broke. I just thought it was strange that all drum keygroups in the program had the same 2 POL filter settings and set to 100.
