MPC500 Internal Pics

Antonym wanted some pics of the internal working of the MPC500 pads, so I pulled mine apart and took some pics...

With the top panel removed...

...to remove the top panel, pull the Q-link slider knob off (lift it straight upwards), unscrew the 3 screws on the front edge of the top panel, the 3 screws on the rear edge of the top panel, the 3 screws on the left side of the bottom of the case, and the 3 screws on the right of the bottom of the case. Do not remove the 2 screws in the middle of the bottom of the case, as these are attached to the two gold coloured PCB risers, and you would then have to nearly completely disassemble the MPC (as I did) to reattach these PCB risers.


With the Q-link/volume PCB, button/data wheel PCB, LCD assembly, and pad assembly removed...

Closer up shot of the left side of the exploded view. Take note of the 5 metal clips next to the output sockets, you need to pull these clips out before you can remove the pcb from the case. Also take note of the 2 gold pcb risers, these come loose and float around inside the case if you unscrew the 2 middle screws on the underside of the MPC500 case (requiring disassembly to this stage to reattach them)...

I ended up short one internal screw after putting it back together, not sure if it was there to begin with. And it still seems to work.

Hope this satisfies some peoples curiosity.

nope, yall have interlink style fsrs. these will suite you fine, this is the old school pad style.

Thanks for taking it apart, I started too but it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.

the pads had alot to do with the reason I sold the mpc1k. I realized once they dropped the 500 with better pad design that either A) they weren't going to make a new pad design for the 1k or B) they would upgrade it and you would have to pay $100+ to change the pads.

The 1k seems like abandoned technology.

since the mpc500 so small in its size..

I guess if you know what your doing it's not really a big deal...me I don't have a clue. Good thing this demonstration is available.

that makes me feel a lot better about maybe getting a 500. the pad thing was kind of putting me off the 1000. it's a cool machine and everything, but there's no way i'm spending that kind of cheddar on a machine that i'm fairly certain will develop porblems way too soon. i know antonym's working on some crazy solution, and that it should be easy to implement, and that's awesome, but given that i don't own one, i think it'd be better to steer clear.

the uk price of the 500s is getting on my tits though. 520 pound is the cheapest i've seen, vs 655 for a 1000 with 128mb RAM...
