Just want to be sure about this function. It has nothing to do with streaming a pre-recorded track from the HD, right? AFAIU Audio Tracks are completely RAM-based - or am I wrong?

You are correct.

Basically, any audio file that's played through the unit's outputs is held in RAM. The only exception is outside of the regular sequence mode in the load screen, where you can preview a sample by holding down a pad or function key and stream it off one of the drives directly for as long as you press the pad/key.

I guess that would tend to prove that the hardware has the basic capability to do streaming playback from the drives, but I suspect that implementing the function as part of sequence mode might be tricky if it's possible at all. I cannot say for sure since I haven't really gotten that deep into the specific capabilities of the platform yet.

JJ should know...
