Ive done some searching on this and couldnt come up with much. I thought maybe someone here could help me.

My friend just got an MPD 16 and we spent a few hours last night trying to figure out how to work the thing. Basically what he wants to know is how to assign samples to the pads to play them live and record them. The utility program that comes with it isnt very complex. I wouldve thought it would allow you to assign sounds to pads but that isnt the case. It just allows you to assign different midi notes to the pads. I imagine thats mostly for use with soft synths which I have no idea how to use. What we want to know now is how to take individual drum/bass samples and assign them to the pads to play live. But, if there is any drum synth programs you know of that are good to use with the MPD let me know so I can reccomend something for him.

thanks in advance

it appears as if this is just a controler and the only thing you can do with this is assign midi notes/numbers to the different pads to trigger........samples or keyboards.........cant program or load sounds into it

Hope this helps

Phatz is correct, it's just a controller. The main purpose of the MPD is to give people who hate programming drums with keys or a mouse something to bang on, it just feels better for bangin' out drum tracks.

thanks, I got that much already. What Im really asking is what program should I reccomend for him to load up his drum samples into and play them live with the pads? I know its just a controller but I figured that there is some type of program that allows you to assign midi notes to samples allowing you to play them at will. Thanks though
