Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

I'm trying to slave my 2500 to Cubase SE. The manual says that (EXT) should appear in the tempo field when doing this. Also in that Sparqs vid on Youtube, his 1000 had the (EXT) in the tempo filed. I have the OS updated so I'm hoping that the OS isn't the problem. In Cubase, it says that a Midi signal is being sent out and on my interface, the Midi Out light lites up.... Anyone know how to get this working?

have you got any other outboard midi equip? my thinkin is, if you get midi out to a module from your PC and confirm sound is being triggered (ie confirm MIDI is getting to the other end of the cable)... then re-plug to MPC and send your sync data.

Can you trigger MPC programs via MIDI from the PC?
Have you enabled Cubase to send MTC Sync info?
Have you enabled MPC to Sync in (ONLY to start with) on the correct port?
What is your midi cable path? cubase / pc/ midi interface(which?) / MPC??

You's got to a bit more specific

-i have not been able to trigger mpc programs from the pc...i can do it the other way around by useing the mpc to trigger cubase and reason, but not the other way around
-yes i did enable cubase to send MTC sync to Out B on my interface and the Out B light lights up when i press play in cubase.
-i have my midi cable going from Out B on my Midi interface and into In 1 on the MPC and i have it set to in 1 on my MPC
-as far as the path goes, a USB cable is going from my PC to my Midisport interface...then the midi cable goes from Out B of the interface to in 1 on the MPC

If you can trigger PC sounds from MPC then the cabling should be ok.

I would start a new project.

If you go in to the Cubase Syn Setup you should have;

MIDI time code and MIDI clock destinations, you will want to send both so select the MIDISPORT MIDI port in the Sync options. (MMC later if you want)

Then click ok, then click Transport, "sync online".

If the MPC is ready to accept Sync info, then click Play in Cubase.... what you got?

Another thing to look out for, is that button on the MIDISport device, cant rememebr what it does, but try pressing it!!! LOL. seriously. it changes the MIDI routing if I remember correctly.

G luck, let me know what happens.

I'm not sure if there is a Midi Time Code option...My option is Timecode Source: None or VST System Link....do i want that? when i do have System link enabled, so wierd ass shits starts happening. like the play button will flicker fast...and that button on the front of the Midisport has 2 options....when it is pressed in it says USB and out Midi Thru...what one should i want....one thing that i did notice is that when i press play in cubase, it takes like a second before my Midiout light lights up....must be some latency...could that throgh it off maybe? like the MPC doesn't receive the signal until it is too late?
btw, thanks for the help man....this is really driving me nuts and it's nice haveing someone willing to help

Hmm, I got Cubase SX and it seems the options are different than SE's. Could you provide screen shot of your devices options.

Check this out as well
http://www.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic. ... light=sync

If you press F1 in cubase you'll get the help. VST System Link in Cubase SX is used for Syncing 2 PC's together over CAT5 network cable. Press F1 and search for MIDI clock and MIDI MTC and see if you can actually do it in SE.

Have a search arounf that forum n all, see if you can come up with something I missed.

ok then chap.

Your screenshots look like Cubase and MPC are setup correctly.

My main concern here is that you cannot trigger MPC programs from Cubase. i would try and get this working first. Because once you can do this then you know for sure that the MIDI path from the PC to MPC is working.
Saying that you can trigger Reason from MPC doesnt help because we are trying to get the MIDI data going in the other direction right?

Is your MIDI light on the MIDI sport device lighting up?

It doesnt look like Cubase SE supports MTC, else Id expect it as an option in Sync Setup page.

What about if you send MIDI clock to all available Ports to see wat happens?

I would imagine that you need the button depressed on the MIDI sport device if you are using the USB connection.

i've never tried this before... how would i go about setting this up? i get that i have to turn "Sequence change by program change" to On on the MPC, but what do i need to setup in cubase to even let me change the sequence?

Someone mentioned once that for MTC you have the hit play on the MPC first to put in standby before you hit play in Cubase. Simple, but are you doing that?

Proph - SE doesnt support MTC by the looks, we only have Clock in the Sync options.

Siver.

I'm not sure about the Sequence change at the moment. But if you are trying to Slave your MPC to your Cubase then you will need to prove that MIDI is getting from PC to your MPC.

The simplest way I can think to prove that this is working is to Load up a program on a Drum track on the MPC and set MIDI channel to 1A. Then from Cubase Setup your Track so that you are using the same MIDI channel as on the MPC. Open the Key Editor in Cubase and then click on the notes which represent the Samples loaded on the Drum track on the MPC.

Remember to watch all the MIDI LED's at every stage, so does Cubase show MIDI on its monitors? Does the MIDI get to your MIDI sport? And if so - do you must have some of the cabling wrong between the MPC and the MIDIsport perhaps?

Dont be worried about changing the MIDI cables around if you think they maybe incorrect.

Once you have this working then try the sync options again.

i set everything up in cubase like you said but all i can do is control cubase and not vise versa...wut i mean is that i can control the midi editor keys in cubase but if i hit one of the keys in cuabse, nothing happens....so i will hit a pad on my mpc and C1 on the midi editor will light up.....if i then press C1, nothing happens....but when i do hit C1, the midi out light in cubase lights up and so does my Out-B light on my midisport...think it could be my interface?

If you can "control cubase", then that is proving that MIDI Sport is OK. I would of thought if its broken, then it wouldn't send any MIDI at all.

You say you are triggering C1 - when you look at your Program in your MPC, is there a Sample assigned to that MIDI note. How? MPC Mode - Program - Note.

Remember that when you open the MIDI Editor (or Key Editor as Cubase calls it!) not all those keys will have a samples assigned to it. Therefore, starting at the top hit all the keys.

OR

Open your Program on your MPC, go in to the Note (Page90 Manual) section and then you can wokr out which Sample is assigned to which MIDI note.

Sorry to ask these types of questions but - Have you ever used Cubase before? Or this the first time you've used it? And have you ever had to sync any typr of hardware up to software before?

Depending on how you answer these questions will depend on whether I bother to a guide on it.

I haven't used Cuabse all that much and I have never synced any other type of hardware to software before. but i've honestly tried about everything but nothing works....this is really starting to piss me off
