MPC 60 Wav to Snd Conversion and Issues with that

Hi all
I just got myself my first MPC as Ive been using Nuendo/Cubase for the past 10+ years and have decided to go use the best of both worlds.
As such, I have an MPC 60 with the LInn Upgrade and a SCSI100 Zip. However, I have ALOT of great drum sounds on .wav format which I want to convert to .snd programs. I downloaded the MPC Editor and did it and saved the prgm and sounds onto ZIp from my computer. However when I uploaded it on the MPC60, it takes so long to upload and after each upload of sound, it says 'normalizing' .. and it takes for ever. How could I get around this whole process and convert and upload my existing .wav sounds easier into the MPC.

I really hope someone can help. Also does anyone know who sells the latest drum hits for MPC 60 in ZIP format? ALot are selling .wavs but not prgms with .snds ready to play.

You're probably just better off to resample the sounds from the computer into the mp again. Once you've done a few you get quick with it and it's quicker than messing around with software.

Hi thanks for that but I cant re-sample because these existing .wavs are purchased from 3rd parties.
Also to re-sample from the computer would make the soundcard the sampling medium, which actually defeats the purpose of re-sampling ! As now its not the original and down to the sound card quality, which is what Im trying to avoid.

I think the way your doing it now is the only way to do it. The 60 is slow at loading stuff from floppy or zip.

When you load them the first time your MPC converts them to MPC 60 format from MPC 3000 format. After they load save them using your MPC 60. Do this for each sound file you have. Once you save them using the 60 you will not have such long load times next time you load them.

Thank you.. so im assuming i have to save each sound font .snd rather than saving the program - which it doesnt allow to do right?

You can save the program and samples all at once. All the samples in the program will be saved when you select save program and set "REPLACE SAME SOUNDS ON DISK" to "YES". This will overwrite the MPC3000 files to MPC60 format on your disk. Next time you load them it will be much faster.

i don't think anybody is doing that anymore besides sample kings, and they are terrible (samplekings.com).

banginbeats.com has quality kits but i think all of 'em are in wav format.

or, you could resample into the 60 via your soundcard output like dude said, one wav at a time. then you'd have to truncate each wav which is a huge pain. the result should be very similar to the original, but with that classic 60 warmth. unfortunately, there is no quick way to convert data on this machine.

whats the process for this? ie. taking your .snd files from ur comp into the 60? do you format the disk on the 60 b4 you stick it in ur computer?

Here is what I do...

Using MPC Editor on Windows XP PC I create a kit and export it to a zip disk (formatted by MPC Editor). I shove this in to my zip drive and load er up. The initial load take a bit longer due to the conversion that the 60 has to do. Then I save the program and all samples using the 60. Next time this kit loads it quickly. Maybe someday we can get MPC Editor to do a batch conversion to a zip.

By the way my MPC 60 has OS 3.10e with Marion Systems SCSI kit and external Zip 100 drive.

cant you use that program called "awave"?

it converts sound files from almost any file type.
