Using MPC1000 with Cubase

Hello,

I'm using Cubase 5 with the MPC1000 and I'm having a funny issue with trying to use Cubase as the master sequencer. I've setup the MPC to be the slave, setting the midi sync in to channel 1 (the midi channel on the MPC I'm using). I can record the midi notes onto Cubase fine, and I can playback ok. The only problem I'm having is if I want to use more than one program at a time. For whatever reason, my MPC isn't acting multi-timbral and is only playing one program at a time.

I'd like to set this up like I have it with my Triton, where each track on cubase corresponds to a different program on the Triton...I'm sure that this possible with the MPC, but I just can't seem to get it to work...any help?

Basic setup:
Triton -> PC via Audiophile Midi IO
MPC -> PC via Midisport midi interface
Cubase 5

Midi Sync: 1
Cubase Sync Out: Midi Time Code and Midi Clock to the Midisport OUT

When I go into Main mode, I know that it's synced b/c I see (EXT) next to the tempo. Track 1 has a Guitar Sample program and Track 2 has a Drum Sample program. Whenever I playback on Cubase, no matter what track cubase is on, the MPC will always play back Track 1!!

check page 46-47 of the manual...make sure the "Active Track" is set to ALL.

I checked the manual, but was only able to get this far....

Active Track is set to all...the Soft Thru is set to OFF.

Also, in the sync tab, the sync in = 1 and the sync out is OFF.

Still have the same problem.

I recreated this with my keyboard. You're right, and this sucks. the MPC is not multi-timbral over MIDI. I originally misinterpreted the Active Track...I now take it to mean that that's it. that's your input. from 1 single channel, or "omni" mode (doesn't matter about the channel) only the currently selected track on the MAIN page will play.

That's what I'm seeing anyway.

The MPC MUST be multi-timbral, no?
I really hope that this is the case, otherwise this MPC may truly suck.

There is only a little less than 2 pages in the manual on this. I have followed it, and explained what I've done in my previous posts...I'm going crazy trying to figure this out...

why won't my mpc play midi tracks separately with their respective programs/tracks?!?!?

did you assign each track it's own midi chanel?

drums 2A

etc?

I never use my mPC this way so I really don't know if this is necessary.

Yeah, that's exactly what I have. On Cubase Track 1 corresponds to Channel 1 and Track 2 corresponds to Channel 2. Shouldn't this be enough?

elmacaco, have you ever succesfully used your mpc as a multi-timbral sound module controlled by an external sequencer?

Somebody please help me figure this out! I just got off the phone with a professional enginner and he seems to think that I have everything set correctly. He did mention something about Program Channel assign, but I don't think the MPC1000 has that.

Because it's more of a sequencer than a sound module

- I tried this same set up a couple years ago with my xl and it's a head ache you should avoid. You have to make sure your midi channels match (on the MPC and Cubase) make sure the program on the MPC is on the track you want to record in Cubase

- your better off dropping the subject because it's not what the MPC is meant to do

- The MPC is a bomb sequencer and if anything I would recommend flipping the script and sequenceing your VST instruments with your MPC

The problem isn't with recording, it's with playback. I can record the tracks individually fine, making sure that the midi channels match and that the the programs and tracks match up.

I seriously can't believe that the MPC can't do this simple function. Still hoping somebody will prove this wrong.

Hi, i'm writing to dutch support. It isn't going to work for now. I don't know if it will be. I think it's just a minor change in the os code. I'm sick of it too. Probably we'll have to sell our 128mb expansion and buy ourselfs a 2hand sampler. Succes

just like djadonis206 said, I would use the MPC als sequencer. You are so much more creative when making melodies with your ears then looking at a Cubase screen. You could allways load Cubase midi file into the MPC.
