ANYONE GOT A FLOPPY DRIVE FROM ROUTE 66 WITH 3.1 OS???

i was told that floppy drives from ROUTE66 are not compatible with the 3.1 OS! does this sound right? does anyone know a good spot to get floppy drives that will work with the upgraded MPC60?

I have seen the guy from Route 66 post the same thing on another board. You should still be able to get one from Akai. Dont quote me, call them yourself but, I think they go for a hundred something. You could call Forat and see if maybe they have one possibly in stock. Right now I am working finding a supplier that can provide quality drives that can be modified to work with OS 3.10e. They will all be refurbished since these drives arent manufactured anymore. I could then offer these to 3.10e users (like myself) who find floppies better for organization and useful for SMF conversion.

I dont know how bad you need your floppy but if you have a week or so, I have some coming in to be modified and tested. I could inform you of my results when im done if you would like.

Can you tell us what model floppy you got from Route66? It's really out if curiosity.

yea, i bought this MPC used so im not sure if it is in fact a drive that was purchased from ROUTE 66 or not... that was just what i was told, that my drive was probably from there since it didnt work after the upgrade!

I'm curious to know if there is a standard drive for the MPC-60 that can be used as a replacement. My drive is functional at this time, but i'm still running OS ver. 2.12 and I just ordered the 3.10 upgrade from Roger Linn yesterday. I hope my current drive is going to function properly after I install this upgrade.

Anyhow. I have a good friend who works at a used computer shop and gets tons of old floppy drives in. Maybe I can purchase a few and sell them to whomever needs one.......REAL CHEAP!

There has NEVER been any issue with Route 66 floppy drives or for that matter any replacement drive available from any company with the many differnt MPC OS versions, this was simply a hoax.

Guys the Route66 drive works just fine if your using the correct floppy discs, read your manual!!! the MPC60 is a DSDD 720K unit, this means the MPC60 has a DSDD 720k FDC controller CHIP SET on the main board and is only setup for DSDD 720K discs. Now in the past you could get away with the HD discs with the 10yr old original drive because it was also made 10yrs ago, these older drives do a poor job of media detection and allow the HD discs to pass. Any NEW 2000 to the current 2007 drives are vary good at media detection and only allow disc media that matches the FDC controller CHIP SET in the MPC60. I hope this clears up any confusion and if anyone has ANY question about floppy drives and the MPC just ask me.

Interesting...Peezie I believe you really want to say something constructive here, but your low mentality will only allow you to form garbage...your a punk.

You guys listen...I am not Route 66, but I do know a thing or two about drives and fixing MPCs, say what you want about them but it only shows your low intelligence.

I know for a fact that Route 66 had the first replacement drive available and this is the EXACT SAME drive you can purchase from other sellers!!! I know this because I have purchased both and they are modified Teac drives and both function 100%. The whole 3.10 OS and drives not working is a huge laugh, no matter what you do to the OS the Floppy will still function because it is HARDWARE not SOFTWARE controlled...don't belive me? call AKAI tech.
