Ok, I will say that is a pretty idiotic statement.
My partner and I had done live gigs for years with 2 MPC's synced together.
Other legitimate reasons for multiple XL's:
Need more than 64 midi tracks.
Need more than 16 pads at once.
Need more than 4 simultaneous programs.
Need more than 32 note polyphony.
Need more than 32 Meg of memory.
Need more than 32 midi channels.
How long ago was that when you gigged like that?
Before I would do that I would use a MPC and a laptop (or rack of samplers).
Lots of ways to accomplish the task.
Maybe 2 MPC's made more sense because it was 2 people?
