Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Ok, I will say that is a pretty idiotic statement.
My partner and I had done live gigs for years with 2 MPC's synced together.

Other legitimate reasons for multiple XL's:

Need more than 64 midi tracks.
Need more than 16 pads at once.
Need more than 4 simultaneous programs.
Need more than 32 note polyphony.
Need more than 32 Meg of memory.
Need more than 32 midi channels.

How long ago was that when you gigged like that?
Before I would do that I would use a MPC and a laptop (or rack of samplers).
Lots of ways to accomplish the task.
Maybe 2 MPC's made more sense because it was 2 people?

Last night? Last year? Would it actually matter?

Makes the options that were available different that's all.
I'm thinking since you were performing you like to load up a set so you don't have to try and load anything while your set is going and concentrate on playing.
That's one of the advantages of being able to stream from a hard drive.

I still feel that based on what a MPC can do the need to increase it's capability can be dealt with in many way that are better than adding another MPC.
Doesn't mean that doesn't add to it but it's not really adding something that is MPC specific.
If there was some way to make the two act as one that would be different.

"Makes the options that were available different that's all."

I still do not follow since the options on the MPC were the same as they were now. I can gig with any one of the MPC's so it is not a matter of any limitations.

32 meg of samples and one/two synths was plenty for 2-3 hours of a set, non-stop.

Streaming from a drive is not 'live' and I would never do that under any circumstances. People have done live sets for 50 years without streaming from a drive, so I do not understand how it could enhance anything now.

Neither is playing a sequence but it's part of the evolution the music has gone through.
I'm not trying to get into a what is performing or what is a musician it's just that playing and manipulation a sequence is the same as playing a stream of audio.
Not a song but pieces to build or construct your song (a sample).
It just triggering something you have created (same as the ROM in most synths).
People in all types of music have been trigger sequences for years and now with available power of computers people are realizing that controlling a audio files can now be done in the same way.
Look at the way "BT" performs live, his laptop has the same duties as the MPC.
With the 2000xl the only performance feature I can even think of really can't be done easily with some other device would be track on/off from the pads and dropping into a sequence at the point of choice instead of letting the entire seq play.
Both of those are real-time aspects of the xl but doesn't mean that having multiple MPC's would make a big difference.
Unless you pick up 10 extra fingers by having a second individual as well.
