Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

By mpc3000 Sat Sep 10, 2005 9:54 pm
"dcypher clearly states that the drive is partitioned as a pose to being seen as a 5gb disk - Thats what i meant by no the MPC wont "

It "oppose" not "a pose".

As far as meaning, not according to how I read the thread since you failed to quote anything. Someone asked, does the MPC use all 5 gigs and you said "no". I am not sure how anyone could read anything else into that.

"Thats what i meant by no the MPC wont (see the disk as one)"

I saw nothing in the thread at all about "as one". Why don't you just SAY that instead of allowing some newbie to get the wrong impression?

"for instance, os 1.20 is an improvement on the mpc abilty to recognize larger partitions (ask sir 3000 for the finer details) so I was saying that if for instance with os 1.20 partions of up 2gb can be handled as 1 partition"

Umm, wrong again. I never said anything about 1.20 allowing larger MPC formatted partitions. 1.20 does allow 2 gig single "PC partitons", but the MPC is still limited to <1 Gig multiple MPC formatted partitions.

I am not hear to pick a fight with anyone, even with Bravo, but for the sake of future reference I like to see unquestionably correct information on the forums. Please remember that some people might be reading this have only geen using the Web for less than 24 hours and an MPC for 48.

Com'on man......

Your a clever guy...I know you knew what i meant. If it was that misleading and u (of all people) picked up on that, why not make the point clearer? Instead u felt like you'd add sum fake currency to the pot.

Now look....Pointless nit picking (Is that how u spell nit) LOL!

Merry Xmas everyone!

Ps the question contained 'see' "oppose" to 'use'

So .... can the 5gb be seen as one single partition?? or is the largest partition 2gb? as alluded to by a number of members.

N O . It can't be seen on the MPC as a 5gig partition.

I have a feeling the largest partition you can have on 1.20 is actually 1gb (997mb or something). Can anyone else confirm/correct this?

Still... 800mb partitions is a lot of room for saving per partition.
IMO... It's still a good idea as long you can swap samples from the MPC to PC via PCMCIA. Laptop anyone???

Did some testing with both OS 1.14 and 1.20 with the following results:

OS 1.14
- Formats 6 partitions of 837 megs

OS 1.20
- only formats 1 partiton of 837 megs, but will read all 6 partitions from the card formatted in OS 1.14

I'm not sure why OS 1.2 will only not format the harddrive into multiple partitions..... could be a combination of my card reader and the hard drive.

Sorry, man, but I don't quite follow ...When you partition it in 1.2, what happens to the other 4.2GB(approx)?

I don't know.... it still shows the drive as 5 Gigs, but there are no partitions..... so in the save / load screen there is not nothing that shows "PART:A". But the partitons do show up in OS 1.2 on the drive that was formatted in OS 1.14.

Seems weird to me also..... maybe I'm doing something wrong, but regardless I got the drive to work on both 1.14 & 1.2.

I have one of the Toshiba hard drives..... I assume most will work but there is no way to guarantee all will work.
