Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

I don't know the 2kxl that well or any other machines for that mather, but some chopping help would be great.

Hey Rohan

Didn't intend to imply it was JJ who did 3000 mods I knew it was someone else.

Yes I can think of a few reasons why you wouldn't go into detail. Or rather I can think of a few methods that are potentially litigious.

Although your reasons may be different again.

Jim.

Well for the MPC3000 you won't be asking JJ. You'd be asking me, the re-developer.

Note: I won't be answering these questions either for many reasons.

As for JJ and the MPC1000/MPC2500 OS upgrades.

I doubt he is in a position to tell you ...... or for reasons similar to mine, wouldn't be likely to tell you.

Rohan.

So the big secret is money related? IMO what we need is an open source third party OS.

So the big question is... can you re-develop a 2000 os ?

I may not know what I'm talking about here but...

My quess is that jj and rohan either experimented around until they figured out the language used.... or they had insider info (someone worked for akai)

Until one of them wants to share.... we won't know....
and I can understand why they wouldn't want to share...

I'm just glad we are no longer totally reliant on Slow-kai for possible os updates.......... 8)

i know that it could be much different
maybe someone can hack a little bit the os for the classic 2k version ?
for example:
-the directory reading (like in XL version) would be great.
-zone'ing style like in XL
-multiple program reading at a time
what you think? is it possible?

i think the engine of both mpc's don't differ much, so maybe the JJ's could help us?
Another good thing would be tightening up the automation in the 2k.I was thinking more like what ever volume/pan is highlighted in mixer mode you could press f1 or f2 or what ever to mute with one shot rather than trieing to use the data wheel hoping to get the volume down in time, also being able to mute midi tracks while recording, that right there is a major function that is needed and I agree with something somebody said I don't remember who, but not everybody has money to keep up grading from the 2k to xl it's really not like we don't like the machine it's just that we would like to have the functions there to use if when needed.

Not really because you don't just come into something knowing it or even understanding the language of lt.

keepitcherry wrote:its funny everyone always complains about the choppin in the classic, i actually think its far superior to the xl. i cant stand having to decide how many zones i want to chop it into, i like in the classic just going one by one.
So let's just make it an add on rather than taking away what's there.

I don't know about you guys, but i love the chopping on the OG 2000

I don't think it is impossible for the 2k to run timestretch.....
I think it was said that the 2k has the same processor as the xl and the 3000....
so i would think the 2k could run time stretch as well as the xl...which is not well I'm told... but anyway

folder support would be nice as well though...
Well if it is possible i think it should be linked to the tap tempo to sync the timing with ease and a press of a button so to speak!

the re-sample feature would be nice

What I'd like to see on the 2000 OS:

*Folder support

*Auto Zone

*Auto Chromatic

*The ability to change all parameters on a program simultaneously.
e.g. Being able to change the filter/tuning/envelope on all samples

*Being able to Use the Note variation slider in the sample trim screen like on the XL.

I have a little experience in programming and I'd say that the Auto Zone and Auto Chrom functions are just simple macros that would be easy enough to implement.

Folder support and Multi timbral might be trickier (to say the least)

I think that, because of their reliance on processor speed, that timestretching and sample rate conversion are pretty useless unless you have a spare lifetime to wait.

All I want is the AutoChromatic function and being able to use more than one program at a time. I'm straight with everything else

it's nice i got a bunch of constructive replies. But what is missing here is the answer from those guys who were into the modification of OS'es for MPC 3000 or MPC 1000, guys like MPC3000 or JJ or Rohan, to answer this simple question, is it possible? could You do that?
