Cant find much information on OS 1.20 for the 2k. Currently Im running 1.14. But im curious to know what 1.20 offers that 1.14 doesnt? Are the upgrades helpful/better than those on 1.14? Is it worth switching to 1.20?

Any info is much appreciated! Thanks

1.20 added support for the flash reader in the 2kxl mcd and the use of up to 2gb flash cards. That's it. :|

scsiforsamplers.com wrote:Also, you really should avoid version 1.20 unless you plan to use one of those IDE card readers. I say this because 1.20 removes the drive partitioning capabilities and you can only use 1GB of any drive, IDE or SCSI. This is a pretty big limitation, especially considering that the IDE card readers are not hotswappable.

If you stick with version 1.14, you will retain your partitioning capabilities, which means you can use SCSI drives up to 9GB and some SCSI card readers and CF cards up to 8GB.

Why sit on the porch with the puppies when you can run in the yard with the big dogs?

That is NOT true.

You can use 9GB of Patritioned drives with 1.20 (Any size drive will work, if it's over the 9GB it will simply ignore the rest)

I set my buddies 2000XL up with a HDD via SCSI, and my card reader.
Hard drive is partitioned (Seeing all 9GB, in partitions) and working perfectly in harmony with my card reader and OC 1.20

I am currently only supporting 1GB on the Card Reader end, but have had larger cards working, so have others,
and I almost have it down concrete to where you'll be able to use the same 9GB partitioning on CF as well with 1.20

Should mention that you actually get slightly less than 9GB due to the partitioning... but it is close....

BTW, physical platter drives are not SSD....
However there are many cheap alternatives for SSD - Faster, quieter, cooler, cheaper, that can be used as internal drives via SCSI
And that is what I am currently testing and using in my guys MPC
I'll have them available soon.

And remember. All this with 1.20

You guys take pics of detailed info on your mpc screens
and prove ur words, otherwise stop following each other around post
to post claiming such and such.

This bickering needs to stop.

Aightee then

I can't do pics for a week I'm on vacation
But u could fake pics so ill do a video

Here's the trick

Os 1.2 can read partitions just fine
It just can't write them! ;)

What I did was install 1.14
Partition the internal drive (I assume this will work the same external)
Then install 1.20
Drive and ide card reader both work perfect
Drive (internal via scsi) shows partitions
Partitions function
I can copy, save, open, whatever between partitions
Works perfect

Noteably u cannot partition a larger cf card
1.14 will not see it so it can't do it
And it probably wouldn't anyway cause u have to use special software to partition cf cards
I have a 8gb cf card partitioned via special software working perfect along with the drive

There u go

What I wouyld suggest is always having a disc for 1.14 and one for 1.20 so you can flip back n forth easily in just a couple minutes should u need to partition a new drive.

Noteably I installed 1.2 back on it via cd external scsi but I don't think that has anything to do with it

After that I decided to leave 1.14 and 1.20 on the internal drive so I can always flip back n forth right there inside the unit :)

I'll post a vid when I get back next week. Or tomorrow night if I can snatch up some extra stuff to trick the one I got with me

I'd like to see pics of the screen too.
I got a SCSI -47B card reader and an internal 9Gb 2.5" HD (SCSI to IDE) and could only get OS 1.14/1.14C able to partition/format/read/write to multiple partitions on the internal HD.
Been working great for the past 4 years so I'm cool with that though. 8)

What program did you use? I tried to swap the HD for a 8GB card as an internal drive with Partiton Magic 8 and that didn't work. I'm kinda leery about my HD crapping out on me someday even though I back up everything.

I'll post a vid when back from vacation.

I'm already screwing myself by puttin it all out there before I have my internal drives shipping with instructions for how to do this. My mistake. Shoulda known it was a bad idea

As far as what I used to partition the cf cards, not sure I'm gonna share that. I paid a lot of money for the software and it took me a LONG time to get the company to even agree to sell me a copy, along with a very detailed EULA (stating I can't sell or redistribute, and that neither party would publicly discuss the other or the nature of the agreement, meaning I can't say where I got it). I did find a couple other programs to do it, but they were faulty, and random partitions were randomly failing and corrupting data, or all partitions would fail. NOT a good thing cause u loose all your shitz. So I made sure to get software that would do it correctly. The company I got it from informed me of very detailed stuff about the right and wrong ways software can format flash storage.

U know how to do it now, I gave u all that.

But I think I'll offer my products with the media, pre-partitioned. And sell spare partitioned media.

This will at least give me the edge of. 9gb of solid state storage for my internal drives, as well as 9gb of storage via my cf drives.

They will be for sale. All the time, research, and money invested has to pay off somehow. And I believe I am pricing fairly with all my stuff.

I have been working on and testing this for months.

So anyway, no more talkin bout stuff until I unleash it. Other than the vid, I'll drop that next weekend or so.

Good luck guys

the problem with CF cards is that they have the removable media bit set so computers see them as non partitionable. However theres a possibility that if you can get your computer to boot from CF under dos you could partition it. Actually it might be easier to do something like this with linux i guess.

Not exactly

You'll notice that there are many compact flash cards available with trash, temp, sandisk, etc folders/partitions on them from factory

These are actually named partitions

There is software speciffically able to parttition compact flash

It writes virtual data to the card which assigns values used on physical platter hard drives like heads, spindles, etc and that is how it is made possible

Be aware tho that all the freeware I've tested is flawed and always inevitably ends up corrupting data.

The software I spent months to obtain from a large cf manufacturer does this flawlessly.

I am going to continue trying to find freeware that does it right, or a cost effective way to share the luv,

But for now, its off to more of the first wakeboard 360's of the season and trying to stick a backflip!

why dont you just share the software then? or is this just vapour?

btw i managed to partition a 2gig card into 2 1gig partitions under linux, however the mpc doesnt see more than one partition

SMC wrote:Same prob I had with some softwares

Read my ppreviouis posts and you'll see why I can't share it

because you want coin?

the tools to convert CF to fixed media are called atcfwchg.com and ndcfwchg.com and work for sandisk cards if anyone can find them, they were once available with a NDA but sandisk decided to stop releasing it. No one was ever charged for them.
