Installing a SCSI-IDE bridge, and IDE CF reader, is not really what I would call 'hacking you machine'.

I think you will find that it is a USB to SCSI adapter, designed so you can connect a SCSI device to a USB port/host as a USB device?
If so, it is not what you want, and will not work.
They are designed to connect older SCSI drives to newer USB computers, not to connect newer USB drives to older SCSI computers.
You can't just turn a USB device (if the adapter is designed to connect a SCSI device to a USB port/host) into a USB host (which would be required to connect a USB device to a SCSI port/host) with some male-female USB adapters, it simply does not work like that, it has to be designed to operate like that, you can not plug it in backwards and get it to operate the opposite way.
I do not think that there are adapters to connect a USB device to a SCSI port, but as tapedeck says, if you think differently, please prove us wrong, just because we have not seen it, doesn't mean it isn't out there.
That drive, and the adapters, are a waste of time and money, if you are trying to get them to operate while connected to the MPC.
