Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey there everyone

I picked up an MPC2K (NOT XL) about a month ago and I'm completely going nuts over how much fun this damn thing is. This site has been an invaluable resource for help but there are still a few questions that I can't seem to find answers to. If any of you have the time to help me out, I'll repay you with loads of good karma...

1. When I sample bass drums I get an annoying click when playing them with the pads. I haven't noticed that click with other instruments.

2. Last weekend I sampled 32 drums sounds and assigned them to the C and D banks. After saving them to disk I then went in and edited the sounds quite a bit. For some reason when I try to save these over my old sounds it doesn't keep these new changes (ie. when I load them afterwards from the zip all I get are the old sounds).

3. And last but not least, every now and then my MPC freaks out and displays a group of #'s on the lcd screen. I take it that it's because I'm using the cheapest memory money can buy. Yes?

Thanks for any replies - I'll post some of my stuff when it's ready.

I get the same click sometimes with bass drums, just put some decay on there and it'll disappear. Don't know why it happens though...

1. I agree wit donger... when that happens to me I put a short attk/decay like 2 or 3 to get rid of it.

2. When you save it'll ask something like "replace same sounds?" Turn it to 'Yes'. When its turned to no, the only thing it'll save is program settings.

3. I don't know for sure... but cheap memory could be the culprit.

Thanks everyone, that did the trick.

one reason you may be getting a click is that it could be edited on a peak. go top the trim window and zoom in to see where the start of the sample is. make sure it is edited at the zero point, not at the apex. but pushing the attack back a little will get still get rid of it if that doesnt help.

Clicks and Pops are due to sharp drops and/or increases to volume. Like u said a decay is a good thing at the end because it makes for a smooth ending volume. As for clicks and pops at the beginning of a sample you will have to experiment with a small amount delayed of attack and/or slide your start point into the sample in small increments until the click/pop disappears. If all else fails resample and try to get a cleaner sample.. I use a wave editor to locate my pops/clicks and kill em all. I also use a noise reduction plugin that dam near eliminates all pop/clicks/crackles from within the sample.

Hope this helps.
