Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By D.M.T Sun Jan 27, 2008 5:22 pm
I have certain sounds I load onto my zip disk and they seem to just not open on the mpc. I think its beacause there 6 bit instead of 16 bit sounds. How can I convert them to work in the mpc? Where do I find a converter to do this?

thanks

Try Cool Edit Pro, maybe it will help.
If not, you can always just sample these sounds directly into the mpc.

well, i think goldwave can do this. just download the shareware-version and start converting.
or google for "wav editor converter" for example. there are tons of free tools on the web.

You could just make a pgm file in mpc editor or mpcpgm maker with those sounds. It will give you a pgm file and the sounds compatible with the mpc. You could if you really wanted just take the sounds by themselves.

db power converter, will allow you to batch process a whole sample directory. just right click and away ya go.

a practise i used to follow, was to make my beats with a dummy kit, which was 22.khz mono, quicker load, processing, then i would substitute the sounds at the end with the 16bit 44khz stereo. and track it out. i learnt that doing 3d animation at uni, a good way to presever processing power.

Man, what a great tip! Both actually, the program, which works very smoothly and the idea with sample replacing. Thanks.

Hey Fasttrack...I did this before but sometimes Id still get the same error.

Ive done the batch process before...which actually made it better.

BUT you also have to MAKE SURE its within the 8 character name.

that can help too.

I heard that NOT only does it have to be .wav...but PCM formatted .wav

Also...IT HAS TO BE 16-bit and 44100 Hz sampling rate...

I tried a 16-bit and 32000 Hz and the MPC still didnt recognize it.

Hopefully theyll upgrade the Editor version to something that can accomodate for this. Cuz its easier to do my converting from Cool Edit then one by one with the MPC...still do it though.

And if you dont want to pay...just get GOLDWAVE online...its free and has a batch processor too!

DMT...i got the same problem. Well if YOU want to keep your sounds to be 6-bit...I do on most my drums.

I think IT IS the Zip disk. Ive been trying to do this since i got the MPC Editor and it simply wont read my samples that are NOT 16-bit/44100Hz...I have to re-sample them thru my MPC and save it again after transfering.

No biggie...i do it little by little, Editor is still a great usage.
Just hope that there will be an UPGRADE to the MPC Editor, that will enable Zip disks users to do this. I also saw it on their manual...that it can only read 16-bit for 2Kxl users with zip disks.

1) For those who are using Flash Cards...are you guys having this problem? Or are you able to transfer re-sampled sounds/files from MPC Editor to the MPC? (Write-to-Read)

if you convert UP from 6bit to 16bit, I don't think your sound will suffer. If you convert DOWN from higher than 16bit TO 16bit, your sound will suffer. So convert from 6bit to 16bit and load it into your mpc.

Just hope that there will be an UPGRADE to the MPC Editor, that will enable Zip disks users to do this. I also saw it on their manual...that it can only read 16-bit for 2Kxl users with zip disks.
I doubt it there will be any upgrades to it, the author of MPC Editor is a member of these forums though. Even still, the machine itself will not accept those odd bits, it only wants 16/44. go ahead and try converting 6 to 16, listen to it as 16, it should sound the same, now place it in the mpc... It won't hurt to try.

yup

yea Lampdog...

ive been trying from the 6-bit to 16-bit (well i have no choice right?! if i want them in my mpc)...

And true it doesnt suffer much when converting up...not as pure though...but i go do it on my MPC anyways. My drums are most important, id go thru that hassle.

Good lookin out.
